Joel Buchsbaum is a hero of mine but I think he has really become lazy the last three or four years...How can you say that a guy with the kind of career Faulk has had only plays well  when he has a salary drive going on?  It absolutely makes no sense...or about as much sense as saying the 1998 Rams had as much talent as the 1998 Falcons.

The bonus to Pace is due after the season is over...they can go to war with this team and still make the payment to him after the season is over I think. They have been keeping that amount open all year long.

Note that Faulk's base salary is club friendly next year, with his age,  the expected escalation in the cap I think the Rams came out pretty good in this deal after all. By the time he hits the last three years of that deal the going rate for a franchise back will probably be close to that anyway.

What is Kevin Carter's future? Will he stay with the Rams? My sense is that if they wait until he is a free agent they will never keep him.

BUT he has put down substantial roots here and really likes St. Louis. He feels a special relationship as the first draft pick from here and wants to get a new contract extension before 2000. If they open up contract negotiations toward the end of this year of during next years offseason they will be able to keep him easily. I expect them to do so....he is incredibly personable and one of  the most visible players locally.
