My name's Britt Gordon-McKeon, and I'm working with America Votes (a coalition of grassroots organizations which focus on broad range of issues including environmental protection, education, human and civil rights, women's rights, choice and labor) to help get out the vote in Wisconsin on Election Day. We got your name from MoveOn Student Action, and we wanted to let you know what's going on in the next few days and ask for your help. On Election Day, Tuesday, November 2nd, America Votes will be sending busloads of volunteers to Wisconsin to take part in Get Out the Vote efforts, like reminding people to vote, helping get them to the polls, and monitoring polling sites. Wisconsin is a crucial state, and voter turnout may be the deciding factor. If you can take a day off from school to join us in Wisconsin, your help will go a long way. America Votes has two buses-- one leaving from UIC, at 900 W. Harrison (west of Halsted) near the UIC Blue Line stop, and one leaving from Northwestern's Evanston campus at 600 Emerson, near the Foster Purple Line stop-- and we hope you'll get on board. The buses will be leaving at 9am on Election Day, and returning after the polls close, which we're estimating will mean you'll get back to Chicago around 10pm. If you have access to a car, we'll give you directions and you can drive up to Wisconsin and volunteer any time of day that works for you--you can get back as early as 11am or leave as late as 3pm. (We can also try to connect people without cars who need a flexible schedule with people who have empty space in their cars, so just ask.) Please get in touch with me as soon as possible so I can answer any questions you have and reserve a seat on the bus for you. You can call me at 312-233-8784 (or at 224-875-2026 this Saturday or Sunday), or send e-mail to [email protected]. Please pass this information along to anyone else you think might be interested in making a difference on Election Day. We're looking forward to your help! P.S. There are other ways to get involved, too. You can go up to Wisconsin on October 30 or 31, or you can make phonecalls to Wisconsin voters from here in Chicago up to and including Election Day. Just ask me, and we can get you connected with opportunities that work for you. Sincerely, Britt Gordon-McKeon America Votes 312-233-8784 [email protected] TUESDAY, NOV. 2: GOTV with MoveOn Student Action http://www.moveonstudentaction.org/grandslam We have assembled the names and phone numbers of over 30,000 progressive leaning young Americans in critical swing states. Most have never voted before. But thats about to change. Weve set up a nationwide Grand Slam Election Day phone bank, heres how it works: We give you their names and phone numbers in easy groups of 15. You call as many as you can, giving them their exact polling location and the number for the national hotline set up to protect their rights. They vote, and bring their friends to do the same. Together, we just saved the country. (PLUG: Phone banking is fun and easy. MoveOn rocks. You can't go wrong.) TUESDAY, NOV. 2: GOTV in Wisconsin with Wisconsin Citizen Action Fund 7:30am-5pm A group of us are going to Madison, Wisconsin tomorrow if anyone wants to join us. We'll leave from Oak Park at 7:30 am and be back by 5 pm. We're volunteering with the Wisconsin Citizen Action Fund and helping them get out the vote in Madison's low-income neighborhoods. We don't have room in the car but we could lead the way.. The polls open at 6 am so you will still have time to vote here in Illinois. Let us know!
