2004
We begin in 2004 with the preparations continuing throughout the year are all now in rediness for this 2004 Display, all the lights have been repaird and checked ready through out the year and a new cut out of 3 reindeers standing up holding a sign between their teeth saying "Happy New Year" has been made to put in front of the roller door space, 2 steel poles that go each side of the property at the front gates have been modified and pipes cemented in place to hold the steel post up that carry little Lantern Lights and the second poles will hold the heilium balloons on Xmas Eve, as a wire is stretched across the front between the poles, next monday 25th Oct I will start putting up lights all along the face walls of the house, no photos are availabe at this time. The Star fireworks net has been rebuild as something caused all the paint to come off the globes, so all new light sets were replaced and the frame work re painted black. Wow, so far 6 major Hotels have come on line with Donations with a night for 2, this idea this year is to give these major prizes to those who donate the largest amount to the Kids, hopefully many will donate nice amounts in thier bid to win these great Prizes, 600 letters are ready to be hand delivered locally and 300 posted to Company's for requests of a donation for the $5 raffle draw,,Now the middle of Novermber and all the front house walls are done and most of the roof, by the end of week 19th, all the roof will be finished ready to do the Cocos Palms with the Cherry Picker, Searching the Web with Google under the seach of Perth Xmas lights display, and found one of my Xmas lights sights under "Another Rambo Production" and this site on the World Xmas Lights. http://www.planetchristmas.com/ShowingOff2002.htm . Showing Off in 2002, Planet Christmas. Today tues 16th Nov the first of the 2 big mast's were erected, the Moon and new Star is erected left picture, and the Fireworks Star Net laying down with a close photo of it before it is erected, and should get the big one up in the next 2 days, at this time, all is being readied in time, the next series of photos are of the Cherry Picker used to put the lights up in the 2 story high Cocos Palms, and some of the views. Time is getting close with only 6 days to go to turn on night, the photographer is comming on friday 26th to take a photo for an editorial in the Local Paper of me and my lights, as soon as the cocos palms are finished, then next job us to do the front garden, leaving the front lawn untill after it is mowed and heavily watered next thursday 25th, the last lot to do, the front lawn on the friday 26th for turn on night.
In the series of pictures above show the Cherry Picker, and a shot from high above looking down on the machine, also a pic of one of the big palms, lights can be seen in the top left are on for testing and the water fountain below, another looking down on Santa from 30 feet high, and looking up at the big palm trunk with lights wrapped around the trunk all the way up from the base, plastic is tempory wrapped around them to stop the iron in the bore water from damageing them. The night scene net is up along with the 3 big stars, few alterations of flood lights on the big tree are needed and a minor fault in the rocket image of the fireworks net lights needs to be adjusted, just waiting to see if the rain forcast is comming in to if the lights still get turned on for the first time to the public on Friday 26th Nov.
The photo on the left was taken by the local Newspaper and will be published on Dec 7th Edition, not the best pic of me, the paper will run a short story on the lights display, now the lights have been on 6 days and very low attendance of people have been to see and donate so far, it is still early in the season at Wednesday 1st Dec 2004, it should pick up by this weekend, Tonight the 1st Dec, a reasonable crowd came to view the lights,         "John Roe", foreground. Behind, facinated childeren gaze at the Christmas light extravaganza.
(Editorial)                              "The (night)light fantastic"
IT IS that time of the year again when Morley resident John Roe lights up his house to raise money for ill children. This is the seventh year Mr Roe will donate money from his Christmas Lights Display to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. Mr Roe's addiction to lighs began 12 years ago, when his then 13 year old Daughter asked him on Christmas Eve where the decorations were. "We went down to the shop and bought the dregs including two sets of Fairy Lights that I put up in the front yard for the kids," he said. Boxing Day I went back to buy two more sets and ended up with six, and it's just increased from there to now a total of 48000. "The main attraction is the impression of a fireworks display that is 30 ft tall and the lights race up the pole and explode before fizzling out and it all happens over again," he said "it's all run by computer and took nine months of design and construstion." Last year onlookers donated $6474 to the House of Roe display and Mr Roe hopes to raise that amount again this year. In the past seven years he has donated $38000 to the PMH Foundation. I enjoy doing it, and it is going to a good cause, he said. People can see the Lights Display in Marriot Way, Morley, and can donate by throwing coins into the wishing well. "They can also give donations to me - I'll be the one with the flashing lights on Santas Hat shaking a jug around for donations Mr Roe said." (end)
hopefully next weekend they will increase in numbers. To my upset, I find that vandals have taken some of the main signs from my display in the early hours of Saturday morning, despite a good search in the area, none were found again, this just brings heartache to me from all the hard work ive done, this I do not need. I was privelaged to have the Channel Seven Network Telethon Girl, "Tayla Divitini" (left Picture) visit my display on Wed 7th Dec and her Parents have offered to bring her along for the Xmas Eve Celebrations here. In her 10 young years, she has had more that 500 broken bones, she is a very fragile little girl and so adorable. Official now that young "Tayla" will be here to help with the Xmas Eve celebrations and she is going to wear her own little Santa suit and ride on the Fire Engine with Santa (me)and then
make a short speach to the public present to step forward and make dontaions to help reach that target for the kids of $6000, I am thrilled about her sharing this event wih me and the people. The Sunday Times Newspapers came tonight, Thursday 16th to take pictures of me and the Lights for this Sundays Paper, that should help me with more people attracted to come to the Display. To this point, all looks good to raise a fair amount of money for the kids, of course, I am hoping that i will crack the $6000 target set again for this year, and only the good folks who donate from thier hearts will achieve this goal. To my sadness, there have been a few letters written to the Local Paper implying, or accusing me of being rude to people in asking for donations, for those few whingers, they need not bother to come if that's all they wish to say and do, as thousands are more than happy with the way I address them for donations and often many congratulate me for my efforts and what I am doing this for, I have even been kissed by a forien bloke as thats the way they say thankyou in thier country (boy ! thats a worry) so many apreciate what I do, and I know I'm not a rude person, I thank the 1000's from the bottom of my heart for helping me raise $32000 over the last 6 years and I feel we will be close again this year to the target, well I certainly hope so, it would be great again.
LIGHT FANTASTIC: John Roe in front of his decorated house in Morley.
Dec 19th, Sunday Times Newspaper, and a short story, "LITTE STAR TO TWINKLE", Telethon Child "Tayla Divitini" will add her special sparkle to a spectacular light show in Morley on Christmas Eve. Dressed as one of Santa's helpers, "Tayla" will arrive with Santa on a fire engine to visit "John Roe's" Christmas display in Marriot Way to help raise money for sick Children. It is the 12th year "Mr Roe" has staged the show that has raised about $32000 for Princess Margaret Hospital. This year's display will feature a computer programed light show of a fire works hurtling into the sky and exploding. "it's great that "Tayla" and her parents are turning up to help this year" "Mr Roe" said. It takes "Mr Roe" about 4 weeks to string up the 48000 lights. The retired Computer Technician says his power bill is "pretty hefty but that is the least of his worries".(end).
Dec 19th, Another Pic taken by the Sunday Times Newspaper,
With 48 hours to go to Xmas Eve, the money is looking good, the crowds seem a little slow, but I am sure I will have a huge crowd on Friday Night Xmas Eve. Xmas Eve went of without a hitch with a fairly hot and humid day while setting up many things for the big night, aprox 1800 people showed up, the kids were more interested in climbing over the Fire Engine than getting lollies from Santa (me), Young "Tayla Divitini" was a great hit with the crowd who also rode on the Fire Engine with me and then made a little speach to all the folks who came, shes is a very Special little girl,,It was such an honour to have her here as my guest. So a few more nights to go until New Year's day night, will be the last night the lights will be on for 2004 season, until it all starts over again in 2005.                   XMAS EVE PICS
