Trail 365
Kalispell-Reeder Bay
This trail runs from the southern trailhead in the vicinity of the Kalispell Day Use Area (aka the Milwaukee Day Use Area) on Kallispell Bay to the northern trailhead at Elkin's Resort at Reeder Bay. The total length of the trail is about 4.5 miles. The trail has some steep uphill grades when traversed in either direction; however, the most difficult is the uphill hike along the logging road that takes you from the souuthern trailhead to the point where the trail enters the forest.
To reach the southern trailhead proceed north out of Priest River on Highway 57 until you reach Kalispell Bay Road. (Note: If you pass the Priest Lake Airport and the Priest Lake Ranger Station, you went to far.) Turn right onto Kalispell Bay Road. Follow the road until you come to the Y-intersection. Bear left onto Road 237 at the "Y" and follow the road to the trailhead on the left side of the road. The trailhead is located between the Kalispell Day Use Area and the Linger Longer Resort.

Caution: It's easy to miss the turnout to the Day Use Area located just before and on the opposite side of the road from the trailhead.

The northern trailhead is accessible from the parking lot in front of the restaurant at Elkin's Resort. To reach Elkin's, take Highway 57 north from Priest River. At Nordman, bear right onto Reeder Bay Road. Follow the signs to Elkin's Resort.
<<== The old logging road that begins at the southern trailhead is very flat in the vicinity of the trialhead, but this soon changes. From the southern trailhead, follow the logging road for approximately 1 mile until you reach the point where the trail takes off through the forest. Don't be fooled into following a trail marked private property just before the logging road takes a steep ascent. Keep going up the hill.

<<== After about a 20 minute climb, the logging road levels out again just before the trail takes off into the forest.
