| Trail 58 The Centennial Trail |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a fairly easy hike that provides access to both the Geisinger Campground (CG) and the Trapper CG on Upper Priest Lake. Trapper CG forms the northern end of Trail 58 ends and the souther end of Trail 302. The southern end of Trail 58 is located just north of the Lionshead Unit of Priest Lake State Park. The trail provides the hiker with breathtaking views of Plowboy Mountain and Upper Priest Lake (shown in my writeup for Trail 302). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| From Priest River proceed North on Hwy 57 for 22.5 miles, then take the road to Coolin. At Coolin, turn right towards Cavenaugh Bay and proceed for another 20 miles to the Lionshead Unit of Priest Lake State Park. Go past the Unit until you come to Sandpiper Shores. Turn left onto Sandpiper Shores and proceed to a gate. Go through the gate and continue for another 300 to 400 feet. You should see the trailhead on your right. The sign reads "Boundary State Land." If you arrive at the boxes for the resident's telephone cables, you went too far past the gate. There is plenty of room to park at the trailhead. | ![]() |

| If you keep going to the left at intersections after departing the trailhead, you will arrive at Caribou Creek in about 15 minutes. After fording the creek, a 10-minute hike will bring you to a logging road. Cross the road and follow the trail up the hill. Another 20 minutes should bring you to the Geisinger spur. From there it's 10 minutes to Geisinger CG or 2 hours to Trapper CG. Your Choice. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The bridge across Caribou Creek is no longer in existence, so the hiker is forced to ford the creek. I recommend carrying a pair of water tennys to wear when fording the creek. Makes the hike a lot more enjoyable. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
