Who is a Leader?

 

Ø    The leader is considered as the individual occupying a higher position than all his colleagues.

Ø    The leader is that individual upon whom the behavior of group members is focused.

Ø    Leader is that group member who is chosen by his colleagues.

Ø    The leader is that group member who is exercises deep influence over his fellows.

The line between a leader and a manager is very thin. Therefore it is very essential to differentiate between a leader and a manager.

 

v      Manager is an organizational title while leader is an ascribed honorific title.

  

v      Managers are task oriented for the relatively short range. Leaders focus on broader goals and objectives for long range.

  

v      Management refers to insuring continuing efficient operations of the organization in its current mode. Leadership in contrast involves change.
