When one sails the sea it is always good to be familiar with one's method of travel. Here you are able to do just that, on the page that is devoted entirely to the Starchaser.
Legend
1) Main Deck - there is a 15 x 20' hatch that opens to the hold. Two
large oak doors hinged on the sides protect this area in
severe weather and there is also a net across the
opening to keep unwary passengers from falling to the bottom of the hold.
2) Half Deck - this deck is one level above the main deck. Two wooden
ladders provide access to this area. The boards of the
floor of the half deck makes the ceiling for the
coach section (area 11) on the main deck. There is a set of stairs leading
up
to the poop deck (area 3).
3) Poop Deck - A great wooden wheel is located in the center of the
deck, there are cables attaching it to the tiller. The
captain's sextant in hanging near the wheel.
Generally only the Captain and crew are allowed here. There is a
ballista
here similar to the one described in area 10.
4) ForeCastle (fo'castle) - The forecastle looks out over the bow of
the ship. There is a chimney rising from the floorboards
that is a vent for the galley (area 5) below.
5) Galley - There is a large kettle here permanently attached above
a fire proof enclosure. Above the kettle is the funnel
shaped bottom of the chimney. The firepit
below the kettle is lined with metal plating. There are also shelves and
cabinets
holding various cookbooks, spices and cooking utensils.
6) Mess - This is the communal mess hall for the crew. When meals are
not being served, this room also becomes an entertain-
ment area for the crew with cards, dice, rowdy singing
etc, being the main attractions.
7) Pantry - This area is completely covered wall to wall with cabinets,
containing all manner of canned, bottled and preserved
food items.
8) Coal Reserve - This area is used to store coal and firewood for the cooking kettle.
9) Captain's Mess - This room is set aside for the captain to have a
private meal or perhaps entertain an important guest. The
room is richly furnished with exotic hardwoods,
vintage wines, crystal goblets and fine china.
10) Beak Head - This deck protudes over the water below the bow. It
is used to access the sails on the bowsprit. There
is also a swiveling ballista here
used for combat situations. It fires eight foot long shafts topped
with giant iron
spearhead. Five steel chains hang
from this as well, with three of them topped by small grappling hooks used
to foul
up the target's rigging and the other
two having spiked flails. These are stored in a hidden compartment
below this deck.
11) Coach - This is a generally open area that provides a common area
for guests and passengers. There is a set of stairs here
leading to the orlop (middle deck).
The stairs end within five feet of the captains cabin on that level.
12) Cabins - Six indentical cabins are here for the high paying passengers.
Each cabin contains a bed, table, closet, dresser and
desk.
13) Stormcrowe's Cabin - This large cabin
is set aside for the co-owner of the ship. The cabin is as richly furnished
as the
captain's and contains a large four
poster bed, roll top desk, a personal lavatory, oil lanterns and a walk
in closet. There
is a large glass cabinet holding a collection
of pipes and exotic tobaccos. There is also a sealed cabinet on the same
wall
containing varios scrolls, books and
spell components.
14) Orlop - This is the middle deck of the ship. It can be accessed
by either the stair case or from the large hatch in the main
deck. There is a wooden swivel
bridge to span the hold space. This bridge can be moved to the side to
allow for cargo
loading and unloading.
15) Great Cabin - Captain Pennington keeps
his quarters here, and as such this is a fine cabin appointed both with
items of
luxury and utility. An ornate
oak door allows access to this room, but very few are allowed here save
for the Captain
himself. The the left of
the cabin's entry, a door leads to a large walk-in closet. It contains
clothing and other items. To
the right of the cabin's entry,
what looks like a solid wall in fact holds a secret door that leads to
Captain Pennington's
personal treasures.
16-23) Officers cabins - These are the personal cabins for the ships
officers. The captains's clerk (16), marine officer (17),
deck master (18), purser (19),
ship's carpenter (20), second mate (21), first mate (22) and boatswain
(23) are all
quartered here. This is
one of the benefits of rank.
24) Crew quarters - Both of these rooms contain two parallel rows of wooden bi-level bunks.
25) Ship's Armory - This room contains all the weapons for the crew.
None of the crew are allowed to carry any weapon
other than a dagger without permission.
When not engaged in a battle all weapons, shields etc are stored here.
The room
is sealed by a heavy iron door on concealed
hinges. There are two locks on the door and only the captain, first mate
and
ship's mage have the keys.
26) Hallway - This hallway is richly furnished. There is artwork hanging
on the wall at ten foot intervals. The hallway is lit by a
magical chandelier that flares to light
when anyone enters the hallway.
27) Ship's Mage's Quarters - This is a normal cabin furnished similiar
to the officers with the addition of a work table and a
cabinet for storing spell components.
It belongs to Palamar.
28) Vale's Quarters - This room
is where Vale Darkforest has
his quarters. It contains a bed, some shelves, and a table.
A
porthole looks out over the sea.
29) Thieves' Quarters - This room provides a living space for
the female thieves of the Istarian Thieves' Guild. It is similiar
to
area 24, save for that it has a large
bed against the right wall which is where Sasha Swiftblade stays.
30) Thieves' Quarters - This room provides a living space for
the male thieves of the Istarian Thieves' Guild. It is similar to
area 29 save for that the
large bed belongs to Taran.
31) White Lily's Quarters - These
well furnished quarters are used by White Lily when she makes her trips
away from Istar. A
comfortable four-poster bed is here
along with many other fineries. It is very similar to the Captain's
Quarters, and only
slightly less richly furnished.
There is a table next to the door which holds a glowing white orb.
This is shrouded by a thin
white veil enlaid with arcane platinum
runes. It is trimmed in gold.
32-37) This is the ship's hold. The lower hold is flush with the keel.
Great coils of rope are stored in the forward area (36),
there are rolls of sail cloth (35), fresh water is stored in numerous barrels
(area 34). Ballast, composed of large rocks
are stored next to the water (area 33). The ballast is adjusted depending
on the amount of cargo aboard. Legal trade
goods are stored in area 32. Extra provisions for the ship are stored
in area 37.
38) Bread room - This chamber is sealed off from the rest of the hold
by a wooden door. The floor is raised three feet above
the rest of the hold providing a dry
platform for the several hundred bags of flour stored here. The wall opposite
the
entry door is blank. Close inspection
will reveal a secret door leading to area 39.
39) Treasure room - This is the part of the hold that contains any stolen
goods. There is a minimal amount of treasure here at
the moment.
