General Guidelines
Though Palanthas is by no means a strict place, sometimes the founders
have found it useful to create a few general guidelines to keep things
moving. I know I hate long complicated rules lists, so I'll just
try to stick to the basic things you should be aware of.
-
1. Plot Changes: Try to keep away from including drastic
plot changes in your posts, or if you plan to do so, please notify the
founders beforehand. If you fail to do this, your post will be deleted
and you will be warned. A second violation will have your posts moderated,
and a third violation will strip you of all posting rights.
-
2. Combat: There are three different methods of combat
that we use when such a situation arises at the club.
-
1. Storybook: This is the default for
the club. In this method, you are in charge of handling combat around
your character...you post when he or she is hurt, when you hurt your opponent,
and so forth. Please keep in mind your character's general ability
however - mages are generally weak, younger combatants are usually less
effective, and so forth.
-
2. By the Dice: The use of this method
will be announced by the founder. During combat of this type, you
post your intentions ("Ramalad will attack the first hobgoblin with his
sword. If he kills the hobgoblin, he will attack the highlord.")
and the founder in charge of the scene posts the result. This is
usually quite a bit more deadly than Storybook combat, as your character
can die if you aren't careful.
-
3. Between Player Characters: When one
character attacks another, it is handled with great care in Palanthas so
that events will proceed fairly. Keep in mind that not all characters
are equal (see #3). There are two ways of doing this as well.
In the first, the chief founder handles all outcomes in a method similar
to number 2. In the second, both players must agree on an alternate
way of handling it (this may include having another founder run the combat).
-
3. Character Advancement: The longer you remain with
the group, coupled with your general level of activity, how powerful a
character you may run. As of now (7/14/2002), the most powerful active
character is Questor Blacksteel, because his
player has been with Palanthas since 8/27/2000. For those of you
who are using the Dungeons & Dragons rules, I will tell you when you
level up (I secretly keep track of experience).
-
4. Post Content: Though there have been instances where
posts have reached the level of an R movie rating, please do not exceed
this. Objectionable content will be deleted on sight.
-
5. Character Auto: In your posts, please do not include
a reaction from another character unless specifically given permission
to do so by a moderator or by the player of that character. You may
post an action that your character does to character B, but not a reaction
that Character B has to Character A's action.
Character Creation
Here are some general guidelines for beginning characters
new to the club:
-
Characters generally start at roughly 4th-5th level (level
is simply used as a reference point). If you are not familiar with
the Dungeons and Dragons game, then overlook this part.
-
New Characters may start with 2 minor magical items (Example:
Potion of Healing) or one moderately powerful magical item (Example:
Magical Sword of Frost - deals cold damage on successful hits). If
you have a special item you would like to have, simply ask me about it.
I'm generally very lenient on such things.
-
Some beginning characters may be adjusted to a slightly
higher or lower level due to rare circumstances, but this is on a case-by-case
basis and is not common.
-
Any alignment or outlook is allowed, but be aware that the
party tends towards goodly people.
-
Try to remain with Krynnish races that fit the time period.
You can speak with me about special exceptions.
One thing to note is that these are just general guidelines.
They may be tweaked and altered slightly with each character. Another
thing to be aware of is that your characters will get better with time
and will improve (see #3).
