Character History
Questor's mother was the matron of a once great
house in Menzoberranzan. Her name was Matron
Laque. However during one of the customary interhouse wars that happen
about once a decade in the
drow city, Matron Laque was captured by some illithid "mercenaries"
that were supposed to be
fighting for her house. House Jae'Ratl won with little more loss than
it's infamous matron mother. The
mind flayers returned to their cavern home to the elder-brain where
the drow cleric was put to work
massaging it's tissues. A number of decades later she was breed
with a human captured from the
surface named Daerth Nisassa. Daerth was an extremely uncontrollable
entity in a body that dwarfed
even the barbarians from Icewind Dale. The mind flayers knew that they
had no control over him but
yet he worked tirelessly in the mines, doing the work of perhaps a
dozen of the other slaves. After
being bred with the drow matron, the human mysteriously disappeared
from the cavern. The illithid
were wise enough not to pursue him. The violent birth of such
a large child to such a small female was
more than her system could bear. Her brain removed from her body
and added to the Elder-Brain's
mass. Her son however lived to
become known as Questor Blacksteel as the illithid (as had the
drow) had long ceased to remember,
or care, that Matron Laque was of noble blood. However the other slaves
knew and remembered.
For ten years the young noble grew under the warped tutelage of the
mind flayers and the other drow
slaves. During his tenth year his was given to an elderly illithid
mage who could no longer remember his
own name the majority of the time much less his spells or how to control
his new house slave, as a
result Questor gain for the first time in his life a measure of freedom.
During one of the times that the
young half-drow was cleaning his master's library, he came across one
of the mind flayer's elementary
spell books written in undercommon. The slave stole the book and studied
the spells relentlessly
whenever he had enough time to spare away from his duties. Less
than a year later, Questor made an
escape from the mind flayers' clutches using an illusion in a hazardous
area and triggering a rockslide,
burying the image. As he was but a slave they didn't even bother trying
to uncover his corpse. Since
the illithid had no idea of his continued existance on this plane he
was free to roam as he pleased. His
first act was to kill the elderly illithid from whom he'd stolen the
spellbook and take the final tome the
mind flayer had written before age had taken the greater part of his
mind. Later he stole into the main
armory and took the greatest weapon of the illithid against the drow.
The dreaded sword Spider's
Bane. As the underdark is not a hospitable place, Questor made for
the surface, hoping that conditions
would be better there, yet fearing the effects sunlight was known to
have on his kind. Dawn was being
born again, as he reached the exit into the open air facing straight
into the sunrise. To his surprise the
sunlight had no effect on his person. He hid the sword and the tome
that he stole as well as the only
thing he had from his mother, her medallion that marked her as a noble
of the house of Jae'Ratl. After
he made it to the surface he was found by an elderly priest of the
now dead god Bhaal. The
priest saw much potential in the boy and took him in and trained
him along with his three associates.
The priest three friends trained him in the many arts of war.
One was a nearly legendary swordsman
and trained Questor to handle spiders bane very well. The second
was an archer of skill comparable
to that of William Tell and Robin Hood, teaching the boy to use a bow.
The third was once a mage of great repute and he accelerated
the half-drow's knowledge in the ways
of magic, not only in those spells common throughout Faerun, but also
the art of manipulating the
pathways of magic into new spells. Questor fought beside the
four for many, many years learning all he
could from them, and finally killing them when he had nothing
else to learn, turning their own skills
against them. Before he died, the priest passed to the young
elf a secret driving him mad. He went on
a rampage killing many and leaving a swath of horror behind him until
finally being subdued by a tribe
of peaceloving elves. They calmed the fever in his blood and
brought him into their community. Finally
finding acceptance, Questor hung up his weapons and put away his magical
tome for what he thought
was for good. He found a life of peace, even found himself falling
in love with one of the young elven
maidens and became betrothed to her. However, the village was
not too far from an entrance to
Menzoberranzan. There was a raid one night by the drow upon his
village lead by his own older half
brother, Calis Jae'Ratl. They killed everyone in the village,
including Questor's betrothed, while the
young half-elf stood and watch helplessly. However, as he watched
them slide that disgusting spidery
dagger accross his soon to be wife's throat, his vow lost all meaning
to him and he once again became
a living disaster area, annihilating all of the drow invaders save
his brother. He took from Calis only
Spider's Fang, the dagger by which the maiden had been murdered and
scarred the older Jae'Ratl's
face with it. Calis escaped back to the drow city and was charged
by his sister, now the matron
mother of house J'ahzaenolde Quel'Anthenaxtl, the third house of Menzoberranzan,
with hunting down
the renegade and bringing him to "justice". Questor, after his
stint with the elves, still desired peace and
ran rather than killing his own kin. He even went as far as traveling
across the planes to escape his
pursuers. Finally ending up in the Abyss, he met not only Lolth
but her hated rival Takhisis. Takhisis
became quite amused by the young elf, seeing him as an effective thorn
in the Spider Queen's side and
decided to help him, sending him to Krynn which lay outside Lolth's
sphere of influence. The drow
hunters were not satisfied even with this and followed him with the
help of their patroness to Ansalon.

quick to spot concealed doors and hidden entranceways. Merely
passing within 10' of a concealed door allows an elf a one-in-six chance
(a 1 on 1d6) to notice it. If actively searching, an elf's chances improve
to a two-in-six chance (1 or 2 on 1d6) to find secret doors, and a three-in-six
(1, 2, or 3 on 1d6) to notice a concealed door.
Infravision - Infravision with a range of 60'.
Resistance - 30% resistance to sleep and charm spells.

Description
An imposing figure for an elf, drow or otherwise,
Questor stands a full six foot tall, weighing one hundred sixty-five pounds.
Having a build similar to his elven brethren, this half-elf's agility and
speed belays his size. He dresses usually in black and red, with white
and grey trimmings. Unfortunately, most never live to tell how he
dresses. He wears a large bulky cloak that hides his features to all as
well as a multitude of weapons to eliminate those who see those same features.
His favorite is his giant
two-handed blade, though he uses it only rarely. For the most part
he uses his bow to down any foe without having to engage them in melee.
However sometimes it is necessary and then he pulls his sword or the small
sword and dagger on his belt if faced with an opponent where reach is not
of great import, such as against a creature faster than he, a rare occurance.
To hide his color, he always wears gloves, long boots, his cloak and other
concealing clothing. In each glove rest a throwing knife and in
either boot a dagger. Questor is utterly ruthless, but there
is always a method to his madness; he uses the person for as long as possible
before he slaughters them.
DM's Notes: Questor possesses an intense charisma which gives him quite a bit of influence amongst his companions. He is extremely dangerous, and not someone who you would wish to cross. He displayed an interesting side of his character during a terrible battle with Astautha, by sacrificing himself to save the crew of the Starchaser and the group.
