- the following account is as was posted, (Feb./2002,by me), in reply to a fellow e-Group
member, ("John"), who had asked, to those debating it, "Would you ask a man
   with no arms to play catch with you?". {betcha can guess what *my* answer was. ;) }
...The topic being discussed was, to simplify, "Abuse, and Survival, via Creativity".

John: ...you've creatively survived..... you have to keep creating!

Dzik~ (me):  And ~that's~ what it's all about! ... :D

By the way, while I'm here, I'm just dyin' to tell...

   Yesterday I rappelled from a thirty-five-foot tower!!! :D
It was my first time! ...(One of my daughters is in cadets, and there's a weekend thingy
goin on at {the barracks}. Daughter had a LOT of homework, so she couldn't go, but
yesterday we went to watch everyone rappelling the tower. I became intrigued, and at
some point commented to one of the Corporal's, {with the devilish of grins! :p }, "So,
I guess this is one o' those two-handed-type operations, or what?!"

And he promptly, with ever so straight a face!, began describing a harness that  could
   be rigged up...    : ) ...

We stayed and watched for an hour or so and as we were leaving I hear the Corporal
call out, "If ya make it back after lunch, maybe we can get YOU a turn up there!"

EEEEEK!... Me and my big mouth, I laughed.. But to make it worse, lol , I had said to
my cadet daughter, (who was VERY apprehensive about rappelling from the top o' that
tower at ALL), "Well if ~I~ do it, will you??!"

   And she said, "Okay..!"

Well we went back, but not til 4:30 did we arrive, and it had started to rain, plus it was
prett-near their dinner time... As we pulled into the parking lot we could see no-one
around, but then, "Shhh", I say to the girls, as I with my window open could hear  some-
one near the tower saying, "Hey Corporal, wanna hold up there a minute? That lady
just pulled in that wanted to give it a go!"

ohhh shit, I thought, there's no getting out of this now!!!!!!!!

"Are ya gonna do it, mom? Are ya, Are ya, Are ya?", both daughters asking, all of us
chuckling.... "Well I guess I _am_!"

Laughing, grinning, and all the while muttering to myself, "Me and my big mouth.. dear
GOD in heaven what was I thinking?!", as I suited up, climbed the ladder to the top of
   that tower, and prepared to

PUT MY TRUST IN ANOTHER HUMAN BEING, John!!! ... :D

By now, ALL of the cadets had converged at ground zero!, drum-rolls provided and all.
*grins*... It took me a few minutes to prepare to freee-fall, (which is exactly what I felt
like I was about to do), and then.......................................

   WOWWWWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     I DID IT!    :D   :D   :D   :D   :D

I was SOOO rushing on adrenaline for the rest of the day, I cannot describe.

   It's beautiful though.   : )

Just like the kayaking was, except that THIS time I didn't have Scholars telling me I wasn't
   ~allowed~ to TRY.

My hat is off to those Corporal's, simply for their HUMAN-ness, and their OPEN-MINDED-ness!
And I think that THAT was _just as much _ of a "high" for me, ((cuz it's so rare!)); Truly the icing
on the cake... or the *butter* in it, at least. ; )

But what does this have to do with abused children, you ask?

Well, I am an abuse survivor.   And,

   >>
Would you ask a man with no arms to play catch with you?<<

   Yes, I most certainly would.

   dzik~
*Creative, resourceful, determined, and STUBBORN-as-Hades amputee*

   Cheers!   : D

   ...YAY ME!!!   : )
