| October 31, 2002 Thursday Happy Samhain and Halloween to All! Today I dressed up as a FairyWitchMother. I didn't exactly come up with the name though.. I'm wearing my faavorite black, crushed velvet witchy dress with a really cool witchy hat that has wire built into it so you can shape it and make the cone do that nifty crooked wizard look. I've wanted a witch hat with wire in it since I was a little kid and now I finally have one..Hooray! The fairy part comes in with the dragonfly wings. They are really spiffy. I didn't get a chance to make any antennae but it's still a great costume. The major bummer is that I missed my photo opportunity here at work and therefore am not entered into the costume contest to win a DVD player. I got a call right as I was about to sign off the phone. Oh well... I don't really need a DVD player...It's just one more excuse to watch more TV and I'm trying to avoid that box. Tonite we are taking the kids trick-or-treating and then, Carrie may be soo cool as to take Quinn to this kiddie Halloween party for a couple hours and let me go see Diggabone play. I hope it works out. Quinn is a black cat this year for Halloween. He is sooooo cute. I held him up in front of the mirror with the costume on and he smiled real big. I said, "Quinn is a CAT" and he said, "Squeek!" (His impression of Jupiter meowing) I take that to mean he likes the costume. Tomorrow night, Carrie, Rowan, Quinn and I will be going to the public Samhain ritual organized by the Reclaiming witches and I am looking forward to that. We will be creating an altar to our beloved dead amongst other things. I'll post a little summary of it later. Oh and if you live in Oregon and are reading this, VOTE YES ON MEASURES 23 AND 27. (If you live anywhere, don't forget to vote, either :) ) Universal healthcare and Label GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOOD! Don't be a guinea pig for corporate profit. |

| November 5, 2002 Tuesday I hope everyone out there had an enjoyable Halloween/Samhain. I did. Quinn went trick-or-treating with Carrie and a couple of our other friends that have a daughter. He had alot of fun. I didn't get home from work in time to go with them unfortunetly. But after Quinn went to sleep, Carrie stayed home so I could go to Diggabone's Halloween show downtown. That was fun. I was extremely dissapointed in the bar's costume contest. They were definetly biased in favor of bar regulars. Oh well. The next night, I took Quinn with me to the Reclaiming Samhain public ritual. It was very cool. Quinn was quite mesmerized by everyone at first ( there was about 60 people there) and there was another child alittle older than Quinn that he had alot of fun running around with. One part in particular stood out as really neat.. Since Samhain is the Witches' new year, at one point we all started calling out for the future, like it was a creature to be called to us. "Fuuuture...Fuuuuuuture.." It was eerrilly powerful..and then Quinn suddenly ran into the center of the circle! He just stopped there, as if we had been calling for him. Everyone got silent for a second and then we all laughed. Afterall, what is the future manifest in physical form, if not a child? It was great. Unfortunetly, after a short while, when everyone sat down for the guided trance Quinn was just too tired and began to fuss, so we left before it finished. I was a bit dissapointed, since not only was it my first public Samhain ritual but also a most significant Samhain, with Jeff's passing this year. (For those less familar with the Celtic holiday of Samhain, it is the time of the year when the veil between the world of the living and that of the spiritual plane is thinnest. It is a time to honor our beloved dead, especially those that have passed during the previous year. ) I was also happy that Quinn's first ritual was for Samhain since this has always been my favorite holliday, ever since I was a small child, even though I then called it Halloween. So, allthough we had to leave early, I was mostly happy with the experience. One more thing I will note here..I've lost my journal! I've had the same leather-bound journal for the past two years and I've lost it. I am devastated. I'm not very good at remembering details and this loss is extremely saddening.. I have no idea how this could have happened. If anyone knows anything, I am offering a reward.. a meager one, but I would be eternally grateful if anyone could help me find it. No questions asked...so if someone read it, hey, don't worry about it..I just want it back. I won't be angry. I know that the people reading this online journal probably haven't seen it, since you all live in different towns than I do but I just wanted to throw that out there, just in case, |
