Alanis Morisette at the First American Music Center
(heard from the parking lot), Antioch, TN
2206 (Central Time)
Waiting here for Kerri Dean to come claim her possessions outta my trunk so I can begin the trek back To Bragg...it's been a very worthwhile weekend, both spiritually and mentally. Friends made, performances recorded, possessions aquired...but mostly just some general good cheer.
From here, I can stand to listen to Alanis "singing". Last night in Atlanta, GA, where I stayed and even taped her...the decibel level coupled with the screech factor was bad for me...I like her music somewhat, but quietly. At this level it's almost like I'm just listening to a show at home, typing away, cigar by my side...Yet I'm outdoors, in Tennessee, and it's a beautiful evening to be so outdoors.
The drive down to Atlanta passed decently, even with a rainstorm that had me driving 50 in a 70 zone, with hazard lights a'blinking....Ended up sleeping in my car that night and "showering" in a Days Inn pool at about 8AM...A few older ppl watched me as I did so, quietly enjoying their continental breakfast indoors...but no-one said anything nor attempt to remove me. I did not stay in there long just in case. Found my way to the ampitheatre around 0900 where I sat and was friendly with the other Ears with Feet (tori fans) already there for the meet and greet. I was number 11...a score since it virtually assured me I would get to Tori her honorary airborne beret and birthday letter. I also got a signature on the Crucify tape I picked up in Greenwich Village. I found myself get along famoulsy with a gentleman by the name if Kirk...a tall fellow whom I would later learn had been described to me already as a contact with Julia...a gal I am maybe dirving to the charlotte show...i still have not heard if she is going to go or not...Kirk seems a great chap and I found the time waiting rom 0900 to about 1500 for the tori meeting passing rapidly. I also made good pals with a taper by the name of Kevin...and so he and I discussed various tech topics and I shared with him my accumulated knowledge which seems to have become rather in depth.
Cops milling around on bicycle right now...seems one is interested in my activities...but maybe not. In any case I have every legal right to be here...my ticket stub and my parking ticket...
Tori put the beret on and wore it for the remainder of the m&g...Kirk and a few others got plenty of pictures so I should have some forthcoming. It'll make it easier to make restitution for Kirk on the matter of tapes also...so everyone wins :) I went through the roof when I saw her put it on though...it even fit right. I would have died had she worn in on stage, but such was not the case. I wore my beret to the shows and for the m&g...in part so I'd be easily recognizable by the ppl I was to meet, and part just because I thought it would be a cool thing to do...A security guard last night recognized it and asked if I was in the 82nd...
I was kind of dissapointed about the lack of laminates...I wore one, Keven wore one, and past that, I saw very few others...many ppl assumed it was a backstage pass and i even got a few buy offers! I suppose a person could make a lot of illegal money doing that...as long as the seller would hightail the heck outta there before the buyers discovered the deception...
I ended up simply giving my extra ticket away. The public was too saturated with tickets, and scalpers had *excellent* tickets goign at face value, so...At least someone got to use it and have a good evening. I saw her later, inside the venue...she had been able to stub down to the very front :) Jen and I had awesome seats I though...right in front of the speaker stack, slightly off to the side with a perfect view of Tori and hte band. I swear Tori was lookign right at me while playing Suede...though I doubt she saw me with the stage lighting it was a nice fantasy to believe.
Meeting Jen was really cool, although I never did get to meet Shawn...dang it, or is it Sean...I can't recall right now...We didn't really talk *too* much...what really did we have to say one another I guess is what it boiled down to...mostly tori stuff in between acts.
Damn, my right foot fell asleep and i've got it startign to wake up...that dull throbbing pain all to familiar...
The show was wonderful, although Tori didn't seem in her true element...with the mixing, I was glad it was an outdoor venue, but it didn't really fit the intimate appeal of other tori shows...There was a high incidence of peopel talkign and moving about as it seemd there was a good chunk of people there just for Alanis. I can understand, I was mainly there for Tori and I know a lot of people left after her set last night too.
Seems to be more and more people leaving now in the early half of Alanis's set, but still no Kerri. I hope she find her ride and bunk person OK...
Despite the vast numger of talkers and such, however, the recording still turned out pretty good...of which I was overjoyed. I hate trading for another source for a show I mastered...
Went to lunch after the m&g with kirk and jason and
julia...a cool little cajun place. After the show he was gracious
enough to offer a place to crash at his apartment...an offer I jumped at.
There was no bed or couch, Jason and Julie took that all up...but the floor
was better anyway. At this point in my life, I sleep quite well on
the floor. Even though FTX was only a few days in BCT, I think that
furthered the ability to sleep on hard surfaces...I had my pillow so that
made me sleep as a babe. Kirk had a couple cats too, only one of
which was social enough to be friendly...Jason said he felt it tiptoeing
all over him but I never felt a thing...go figure.
The best part of the arrangement though was the shower
:)
Brings me to today...went to get Kerri at her hotel and caravaned with Kirk 'n' them up here to TN...To kill time until the parkling was opened we went mall/coffee shop hopping...where I picked up some stuff with radioshack, that, unfortunetly, I never got to field test since venue poilicy here (at leasty for this show) was *NO BACKPACKS*...despite the fact that they were running magic wands (metal detectors). I had to dump my backpack and shoe the MD rig...it was better than nothing and it made buying the thing worth it right there...Even though i never caught the wand I wouldn't have gotten my DAT in in any way shape or form w/o the backpack..the pat down was rather good...and if the guard had checked my left shoe like he checked my right one...I'da been a goner for sure. I am *SUPER* curious to see if any of the eight or so other tapers I met last night made it in w/ a DAT...although from what I saw I had the most primo rig, but a DAT w/ CSB would probably be better than the MD with mS...
Birthday show...landslide, happy phantom --both solo...the crew brough a cake while Caton played a cool violin like sounding happy birthday...Tori then launched into a TRIPPY Father Lucifer...it makes me glad that at least I got it archived. Not too much talking tonight which is excellent since I had to run the omnis...getting the CSC bat box in would have broken my ankle. It was painful enough as it was and I thank the heavens I didn't break anythign in the attempt....
1050 (Central Time) and still no Kerri...At this point I'm farely certain she stayed to see Alanis...perhaps because her ride wanted to stay...
The Austin show is on a Saturday. It's General Admission. It's a TORI ONLY show...meaning a full length set with I am sure much more variety than this tour with Alanis...mroe than 1/2 the aduience is for Morisette so Tori was it seems gently nudged into playing mostly the "singles" although she reworked them all or played the reconstucted version from the Plugged 98 tour...I'd really like to hear some changes, and I'm driving to Chicago--Austin isn't much further if not a shorter drive. Kevin has essentially offered a place to stay too so...I think it's going to depend on whether or not I can swing it financially. I'm kinda stretched out right now. If I get enough out of the extra NC tix to pay for a TX ticket, I can probably swing the rest of it for gas/food...If not I may still even be able to manage debt enough to go...Time will tell, but for now, the time is done.
Oh yeah, one last thing...I bought a *really* cool magnet from a fellow EWF striving to afford the tour...highly reminescent of the "vege-burrito" concept ;)
