Metropolitan Musuem of ArtSo it just happened to come out to 42 on the nose -- paintings at the Met that just took my breath & my eye & my thoughts...Is it just a coencidence, or the symbols of fate leaching out to me...

New York has, so far, been all I imagined -- the adventures of navigating amongst a thousand taxi cabs & stopped cars, roadwork, potholes, and pedestrians...The statue of Liberty...4 hours to get to the crown -- big 4th of July wknd crowd -- glad I went yesterday (on a weekday, albeit a friday). I can only make a horrific guess at the wait today...Somehow I always thought it was taller...but I place no negatives upon the grand copper lady; a beautiful site to behold.

Ellis Island -- Vomackas immigrated through there -- I was pleasantly happy to see the name in the computer registry...They/we came from Romania it said...

So I spent much time cruising the streets of Manhattan last night.  I walked about TimesTimes Square Square, I got a $75 Miss Saigon Ticket at 50% off...ticket booth for the disadvantaged (poorer) there at the Square.  Running the six blocks, I had just enough time to chug a bottle of water at the thtr b4 curtain call...A *wonderful* production...

This city is a large one.  That, is of course, an understatemnt that goes w/o saying.  Manhattan alone rivals SF.  I felt dwarfed at first but am beginning to feel at home.  Street parkign is plentiful here for those w/ enough city experience -- to know where to look.  Yet, 1st night,  I parked in a bus zone by accident = $55.00 to sleep in my trunk again.  The back seats pop down for access to the trunk = quite enough space to sleep.  2 nights sleep spent thus.  I shunned the underbridge in Central Park idea after being bit by bugs enough to warrant fear of a quite swollen Vomacka.  More pity for the homeless.  I awoke at 6AM to a tow trunk about to hook me up...he never even saw me asleep and I shocked the shit out of him when I popped up, frantically trying to convince him not to tow me and that I'd move immediately...But all turned out well.

New York CityNow I'm parked just across from the Guggenheim.  My next stop once I finish this wine and pay my bill at the "Cafe Gay Pascal", a little french cafe near the musuems.  Corner of E 89th/Fred Lebow & Madison.  Nice little place really.  Expensive, but everything here is.  A basic hotel room goes for @ $130...at discount rates...Had no time to plug the hostels -- shoulda planned a bit better.  But, other than no shwoers, the car works.  Even w/ the ticket, I save mucho $$. Facuets in resteraunt bathrooms == quickie poor man washes.  Tonight I think I shall get tipsy.
GV at the top of the Empire State Bldg
Tomorrow I debate; Death of a Salesman, assuming I can get a ticket at that discount "day of" booth...& stay for the fireworks -- will hit the Guggenheim & the Empire State today...

It's late now, about 4 hours late.  Houlihans Pub/Resteraunt at E 5th & 34th ( or maybe it's 33rd...30 something...)  It's a good day to be alive.  The Soloman R. Guggenheim was splendid, yet a lot of work there did nothing to spark my groin so to speak....a shame.
