Transgender (sometimes shortened to trans or TG) people are those whose psychological self ("gender identity") differs from the social expectations for the physical sex they were born with.
To understand this, one must understand the difference between biological sex, which is one�s body (genitals, chromosomes, ect.), and social gender (which is socially constructed).
People tend to confuse sex with gender-identity by viewing them as the same thing. But, gender and sex are not the same thing. Transgender people are those whose psychological self ("gender identity") differs from the social expectation.
The Transgender symbol, ,links the internationally accepted symbols for male and female together with a new entity, which is a combination of the two, and which we call transgender.
Some say that transgender individuals are the missing link whose destiny is to restore the connection between man and woman. The symbol simply represents the potential and includes everyone, excluding none.
The circle is a symbol of wholeness, and represents the wholeness of a society which includes the transgender. |
