![]() Alder - A tree from the birch family that was used by ancient celts in divination and diagnosis of diseases. Apple - The apple tree is a symbol of fertility and immortality. Ash - ash seedpods were used for divination. Birch - There are many welsh love stories that contain birch trees and wreaths of birch are sometimes given as tokens of affection. In Scotland Birch boughs were put into baby cradles and carriages to protect them from the fairies. Blackthorn - the blackthorn tree is guarded by the Lunatasidhe, a small hairless fairy that resembles a balding old man. They haunt Blackthorn groves in groups. Elder - Fairies love Elder wood and fiercely protect these trees. The Elder tree is small with white flowers and red berries. Hazel - The hazel tree and its nuts have been seen in celtic and fairy folklore often. The hazel tree's nuts were often called the nuts of wisdom. The esteemed nuts would fall off into rivers and the water would bubble with a mist of inspiration. Oak, Ash and Thorn - a magical trio called the Fairy Triad. These trees are sacred to the fairies and were worshiped by the Druids. Rowan - The rowan is a small tree with white flowers and orangish red berries. The Tuatha D� Danaan were thought to have brought the rowan tree from the Land of Promise or Tir Na Nogue.
