The Krazny Oktyabr or in English the Red October, is the Soviet Union's newest missilt submarine. Set in the early 1980s, The Hunt for the Red October follows Marko Ramius and his officers on a their attempt to defect to the USA with their submarine. John (Jack) Ryan, an analist for the CIA on laison duty with British Intelligence, puts the pieces together to figure out that they are attempting this. With the support of his boss, RAdm. James Greer, Dep. Director of the CIA, Jack attempts to make contact with the defecting Russians and bring them to our side. But the Russian Government knows. They are tring to sink the Red October.
Personal Review:
This was Clancy's first work in the John Ryan universe. This book is very good. It is Clancy at his best. This book shows that Jack Ryan is not only a good analyist, but can "make things happen".....
