Ellen Kozisek -- About Me

The Basic Facts

I was born in 1969. I grew up in the St. Louis area and now live in the Kansas City area. I graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. I was married in 1993. I love music and am a very spiritual person. My Poetry writing

My poems basically come from experience. There's one that's fiction, but even that one expresses who I was when I wrote it.

My favorite poets are Langston Hughes, Robert Frost, Ogden Nash, Pedro Salinas (a Spanish language poet), Emily Dickinson, Edgar Alan Poe, and Peter McWilliams (who wrote the poems in How to Survive The Loss Of A Love). Some of these poets have influenced me more than others. There are some of my poems where I can really see an influence of a certain poet. One of the two Spanish poems on my webpage is very much influenced by Pedro Salinas.

I wrote my first poem when I was 10; however, it was at age 14 that I really started writing. I don't read much poetry these days, though I will sometimes recall a familiar poem. I do listen to music a lot, and song lyrics are a form of poetry... poetry set to music.
