Oakland is a metropolitan city located in Northern California. Located in the wonderful settings of eastern shores of San Francisco Bay, Oakland is a vibrant city with peaceful weather, rich arts and culture, luxurious dining and plethora of fervent activities. The city is ranked the sixth largest city in California. The early inhabitants of Oakland were the Ohlone Indians, which belonged to hunting and gathering ethnic group. In 1854, Oakland became an integrated city with a legally appointed Mayor and Council. Lake Merritt, named America's first state game harbor in 1870 is the only natural brine lake located in the hub of a city. Now, it’s been more than four decades that the coast has been serving as the nation's first three-dimensional theme park for kids, which went on to become Walt Disney’s inspiration and build Disneyland. It is also an ideal picnic site with a jogging track. The evening view of the Necklace of Lights that surrounds the gives it a whimsical look.

Oakland city has an international flavor to it and is the hub of transportation, education, cultural, recreational and shopping center. The city’s heritage is a blend of various traditions. The major corporations and government offices have made it a booming business center. The city hosts three professional major league sports teams viz. Golden State Warriors, Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders. The three teams play their home games at the McCafee Coliseum and are ensured crowd-puller events. The 27% of City residents belong to German ancestry, and 17% to Irish ancestry. The city has over 80 parks that provide various relaxing and recreational opportunities. With more than 300 restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, the city’s gourmet is very relishing. More than 600 churches and temples are the quintessence of people’s different faiths

Oakland is the most culturally diverse city in the United States. At least 100 different languages and dialects are spoken in Oakland. The renowned Oakland Museum and its Babylonian style roof gardens, is unique in all the respects. The stadium completely dedicated to the natural sciences, history, and fine art of California. In the hills, the Montclair district is a focused commercial area. The area offers all the basic goods and services with attractive shops and eating joints with distinctive architecture. Rockridge is a retro neighborhood and is famous for its old European culture with attractive boutiques, markets and connoisseur restaurants, located around a central BART station. The neighborhood of Crocker Highlands has outdated tree-lined streets and variety of houses built according to the architecture of 20s, 30s and 40s. Jack London Square is located on Oakland's sea front and is famous for its Jack London Cinema. Grand Avenue/Lakeshore region is renowned for its historic Grand Lake Theatre and trendy restaurants. Mother's Cake & Cookie Company recognized as the largest cookie producer in the U.S is also located in Oakland since 1914. The Oakland City University is a privately run Christian College and enrolls thousands of students every year for higher studies.
