About Us
The day Allison Beers, Dave Eisenberg, and Pam decided to form a girls and boys school rugby team was a great day in the history of Rugby. In 2006 Eleanor Roosevelt High School became the first school in Prince George's County to embrace the sport of Rugby. To the surprise of many, including the coaches, the interest meeting in the fall of 2006 turned up more than 50 girls and 50 boys.
The teams began praticing in February 2006. Once again the coaches were pleasently surprised.
The girls and boys seemed to learn the game rather quickly, and, before they knew it, were winning games.
The girls B-side won the second rugby game they had ever played against the West Loudoun team in VA. Overall, the Girls team had a great season, specially considering that they had just learned the game.
The season ended with an unexpected event. The girl's team won the Potomac Rugby Union Tournament. The joy and excitement of the team, not to mention the pride of the coaches, was obvious, almost palpable.
However, the Boys team wasn't fortunate enough to win the tournament, but still had great games and season.
Although many of both the teams' players will be gone during the 2007 season, they will always remain in everyone's hearts. You will be greatly missed by your teammates, class of 2006.
It is undoubtful that the Roosevelt Guys and Girls Teams were off to a great start this year. Keep up the good job guys.
