Biodata and History

Name : Ryan Yeo Eng Key
D.O.B : 12 October 1984
Deceased : 13 November 2002
Ryan was born into a family of 3 siblings in 1984. He was the second son of the family. Ryan was, from the start, an independant boy - starting to walk at the tender age of 9 months. His first word was 'kiku' (which later became his nickname), an imitation of the cuckoo clock as if time was to him an important factor. A quiet left-handed boy, he only started talking at 2 years old and when he did he was speaking in logical whole sentences. He was very obedient and was never into any mischief. His only flaw was perhaps that he was short-tempered. However, he never took his anger out on others and never did he need to be reprimanded.
A student of St Joseph School Kuching since primary school, he was fully committed to the school and its activities. He joined Red Crescent in Primary 5 and throughout the next 7 years most of his free time time was devoted to this society. Often he could be seen in the school clinic administering first aid. He took an interest in the welfare of his peers, helping younger students with school work and showing them the beauty of school life. By Form 4 he was made Head Section Leader of the Red Crescent Youth Unit and in Lower 6 he founded the Voluntary Aid Detachment(VAD) unit ( and subsequently commandant of that very unit.). He was so devoted to helping others and when he told us of his aspiration to become a doctor it came as no surprise.
Red Crescent was not his only devotion. He was a responsible school prefect since Form 2. Ryan was always pro-establishment and strictly adhered to school rules. His position as a prefect was to him an opportunity to form a better rapport with his peers. A model student, he was appointed Head Prefect in 2002.
In retrospect, Ryan was a very outgoing person despite his goodboy image. He was an avid basketball fan and was often seen playing in the school basketball court on Saturday mornings. To him, outdoor games was an outlet where he could bond and hang out with his peers. Thus, he also played badminton, chess, volleyball and pool. An extrovert at heart, he was always one for picnics and camping. During these camps he would show his cooking skills and encourage others to do the same.
Other times, Ryan could be found up in his room listening to music. He loved pop music and had choreographed several dances for the Red Crescent Unit in St. Joseph. Those who knew him know that he did not limit his expression to one media. Aside from dancing, he drew and wrote poetry. He was truly one who thought outside the box, truly unique.
