Welcome. We have been expecting you.
A. Documentation of the Development Process
This website was made for a silly business, Uncle Leroy's Comfortable Conversations. I see a variety of consulting businesses, and am sometimes struck by their focus. This is somewhat of a parody of some sites. In order to meet the goals of the project, I first worked in all the specific items needed according to the project guidelines, such as incorporating a clip, audio, some various images, tables, and then I built the content around having those items in place.
B. Defense of the Final Product
Since this was intended more of a parody site, I used images that I found to be a little silly. For the testimonials, I used a testimonal generator I found online, and then put random, obviously stock photo items to avoid any copyright issues. I wanted the site to stand out, so I used a white/purple color base, with yellow/green as a highlight. I wanted to experiment with the color schemes discussed in the classroom texts and found this combination pleasing. I originally had a blue background, and experimented with some other graphic background, but it was an overload of colors and images.
Since the pages already have a lot of images, plus the graphic navigation bar, videos, etc. I went with the same san serif typography throughout the site. Some of the layout ideas seem standard, such as using a table to clearly lay out the price options and using a form to enable users to contact the business. I struggled with the opening page. I'm not crazy about it, but I wanted to create a unusual element that would get a user's attention and have them look through the website for more information. I decided to have it open to the About page for more information on the business since the front page was so vague on purpose. I then created this seperate page to explain the design. Once a user chooses to 'enter' the site, I felt that the navigation bar continues the spoke model initially planned for the site.
C. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth
If I had more time to spend on this website, I would spend a lot more time learning about different layout designs.I would change the landing page, possibly making it a large image with clickable sections. I would also work to impove the scalability of the design. It looks better on some devices than others. If this was a more serious venture, some additional features, such as a live chat or store, could be added. With these improvements, I would consider making the header image a link that returned to a specific page, such as the home page. As it is, I did not want to draw more attention to it.
