Destined Virtues
Chapter 5 by Star
Otaku
Kuririn gasped heavily as he finished going through some punches, kicks, and blasts. All for preparation of the androids' attack. But he wasn't sure if he truly was ready.
He clutched his head in his hands. He tried to assure himself. No Kururin, they're gone now. You've seen what they've become. Do it! Do it!
"Kuririn?" said a small voice.
He whipped around to face the speaker. It was just Gohan.
"Hey buddy. Glad to see that you're awake."
"Yeah. I'm glad that Mr. Piccolo is okay. And I heard about the news... I hope I'll be ready in time."
"We all hope that we'll be ready."
Yamcha stuck his head through the door. "Hey Kuririn! Mind if I use the training room?"
"Go ahead. I'm finished with it. How's Bulma doing?"
"I saw her down the hall. She's just packing up everything in the capsules. She wants us to move just before the attack."
As Yamcha took his place, Kuririn grabbed a towel and began to walk down the wandering halls of Capsule Corp.. Gohan ran alongside him.
"Kuririn, I'm scared. I don't know if I'm going to be able to do this."
"Me too."
"I know haven't really said this before but, what were my mom and dad like? I mean, it's been years since I last saw them, and I don't really remember them, that's all."
Both of them stopped in the hallway as an awkward silence fell over them.
He was too young to remember. You have to let him know. Kuririn sighed deeply and loudly. "Well, just come with me." He lead them to his room.
Hinting at the sadness in his tone, Gohan quickly changed his mind. "You don't have to tell me anything that you don't want to tell. I'm sorry for ever bringing it up."
"It's okay. Just wait there, okay?"
Gohan stood at the door as his friend rummaged around an old trunk and finally presented him with four torn pieces of paper.
He turned each one over, carefully, revealing fragments of a photograph. He put together the puzzle, and made the picture whole again. An idea struck him, and he made a mad dash down the hall.
Kuririn looked out in confusion. Did he upset Gohan that much?
Within seconds, the little boy returned, and in his hands was a roll of clear tape. He set to work on the picture, patching it up as much as he could and taping over each tear. Finally, the scene was whole.
It was a photo of a happy, smiling couple. The man in the picture had wild-looking black hair, wore an orange gi with a dark blue shirt underneath, and he had his hands on a woman's shoulders. The woman in front of him had her black hair done up in a bun with two forelocks hanging beside her face, and wore a purple dress.
"Wow. Were... Were they my parents?" Gohan asked, breathless.
"Yes, they were..." started Kuririn.
