Juuni-gou and Juuichi-gou trotted triumphantly down the halls of Red Ribbon HQ. Both of them were grinning proudly.
"Another day of putting those humans back into their place," said Juuni.
"But this time, we didn't get to have any fun. Unlike the first couple of times," remarked Juuichi.
"Gero just had to place those rules on us. Now it's just get in there, destroy some buildings, let some people go, and then destroy the evidence. Before, we could stick around and do anything."
"Back then, I never thought that humans could scream so loud. Especially when you slowly kill their own families in front of them," Juuichi said with a touch of amusement.
"We could do it next time." Juuni took her aside like he was going to tell her a conspiracy. "What Gero doesn't know, won't hurt him, or us. Or maybe it'll just hurt him."
The two artificial humans threw their heads and let their raucous laughter echo down the halls.
"So you two are back," a voice greeted them.
The jinzouningen turned around and bowed deeply. "Gero-sama," they breathed out.
"I heard about what a satisfactory job you two did today. I hope there wasn't any trouble."
"Well, just one thing," replied Juuni. "Some green fighter tried to stop us."
"But we took care of him," added Juuichi.
"Good. I hope that you two won't encounter any more difficulties. Not that I'm not confident in your abilities, but I think you both need an upgrade."
"Hai."
"Now, you both have a short time to prepare before you are to report to my laboratory."
Juuichi-gou watched the affectionate display going on in front of her mind's eye. She couldn't bear to watch it, but she still looked on.
She saw herself, Juuni-gou, and a young boy playing together, like they were a family. Upon closer inspection, the boy's face was a mixture of both hers and Juuni's features.
"Gohan..." her dream self faintly said.
I think I had this dream before, she said in her head. She remembered seeing this before she awoke and found herself as one of Gero's soldiers.
If only this would end. It just sickens me.
Thankfully, for her, she awoke, feeling disoriented and in pain. But she also forgot her earlier dream, remembering only falling asleep and seeing darkness.
She got up from the cold metal bed in the laboratory and went off to find her partner.
Juuni-gou turned around to see Juuichi-gou heading his way.
"You're finally finished with your upgrade. Are you okay?" he asked her.
"Yeah. I feel a bit dizzy, but I'll be fine," she replied. "I just need to clear my head."
Juuni moved closer to his partner. "Why don't I help you?" And with that said, he planted a kiss on her lips.
