Destined Virtues
Chapter 1 by Tokumei Kibon
"Another city had been destroyed by the notorious jinzouningen."
Gohan switched off the radio and ran down the stairs of Capsule Corporation as swiftly as he could. Yamucha and Bulma were downstairs, and Tien had just arrived with Choazu.
"Where’s…” he caught his breath, “where’s Mr. Piccolo?!"
Gohan looked around the room to see a crowd of faces, familiar in every way, give him looks of grief.
"He’s… he’s in the lab… GOHAN DON’T!" Bulma shouted as the little boy ran down the halls of Capsule Corp. without a second thought.
Gohan skidded to a halt when he saw a tattered large cape lying on a chair outside one of the many lab rooms.
"Medical Treatment Facility" he read in his mind as he practically broke down the door and swiftly made his way to the bed.
There lay Piccolo, with tubes and bandages covering almost the whole of his face.
"Mr.... Mr. Piccolo..." he said unsurely over and over again in his head as if it weren't true.
Kuririn sat outside Capsule Corporations. His head was hung low even though it was the most beautiful day he'd seen.
Things used to be so different, he thought to himself, remembering. If only it hadn't turned out this way.
"His name... is Gohan!" said Goku excitedly as Gohan played in the flowers with his wife, ChiChi.
She laughed. "Goku-sa! He's got quite a bit of energy, I need some rest!"
Kuririn shook Gohan's hand and replied, "Nice to meet ya Gohan. You've got some wonderful parents. Heh, but I think you've worn ChiChi out."
He looked over to where she was sitting don near a tree looking thoroughly exhausted.
"Yeah... Kuririn do me a favour, ok?" Goku asked.
"Yeah Goku?" Kurirn looked back up at his long time best friend.
"I want you to take Gohan to the Kame House and maybe even show him around the city."
"Uh... Why Goku? Don't you want to do that with ChiChi?"
"That's just the thing Kuririn. She's to tired to do anything right now, especially when she has to do something with a 2 year old who has way to much energy!"
"Oh! Well, sure buddy. Heheh, so what are you and ChiChi going to do while I'm doing this favour?" Kuririn grinned and Goku blushed slightly.
"Nothing really, I just think she needs some relaxation. That's all." Goku put his hand behind his head and smiled.
Kuririn laughed. "Sure... Sure, just don't give Gohan a sibling to soon now!" He winked and Goku blushed again.
Kuririn picked Gohan up and got his hat for him. Goku assured ChiChi that he'd be fine with Kuririn and that she needed some rest. Eventually she gave up and surrendered to Goku's wish. So, Gohan and Kuririn were off to the Kame House.
Kuririn wiped the sweat and tears from his face and rose from his sitting position.
"If only..." he said to himself as he looked over the span of Satan City.
Most of the main buildings had been burned to the ground and off in the distance, he could see smoke rising off a freshly made crater.
"If only..." he said once more before running
back inside.
