Destined Virtues
Chapter 2 by Star

"Another city had been destroyed by the notorious jinzouningen," commented the radio announcer.
Gero sat back even further in his chair and smiled at the news. This was the- was it third or fourth city?- that his loyal soldiers had just destroyed. They were getting better at their work, this time, they let some witnesses go to spread the news instead of swiftly obliterating a city.
He thought back to how he had acquired the two warriors. It all started out as a plot to kill Son Goku...
"Good-bye Kuririn! Take good care of Gohan!" called Chi-Chi as she saw her son leave. "I really hope he's responsible with Gohan. I mean, he's only two, and he's going off with some stranger-"
"Don't worry, Chi-Chi. I've known Kuririn for years, and if I trust him, you should too," assured Goku.
"I'm sorry dear. I guess I'm just worn out, and I don't know what I'm saying."
"No need to apologize. Now, let's get inside the house and you should get some well deserved rest."
They both were about to enter their humble little home, until Chi-Chi suddenly stopped short of the entrance. "Oh wait! Goku, I remember we ran out of firewood."
Goku kissed his wife on the cheek. "Why would you think of something like that now? I said you needed to relax, and I'm not going to let you worry about anything."
"Please? All you have to do is go into the woods and bring back a few logs, and I'll be inside, relaxing. That's all I'm asking for."
"You're sure you'll stay put? You'll enjoy yourself while I'm gone?"
"Oh how can I ever manage without you?" Chi-Chi replied sarcastically. "Yes, I'll be fine. Now go!"
Goku smiled at Chi-Chi before he jogged into the woods to start on the task. He took his time, although he wanted to hurry up to be with Chi-Chi, but he couldn't help but enjoy the outdoors.
Soon, he wandered deep enough to find a tree of suitable size.
Chi-Chi was sitting patiently in the living room, waiting for Goku to return. When she heard a loud crash ringing throughout the forest, she knew she didn't have to wait much longer.
She got up and stood in front of the open door, ready to greet her husband. She looked around when she heard a scuffling sound in the bushes.
Probably just some animal, Chi-Chi thought to herself. But her curiosity aroused, she moved towards the source of the noise, closer and closer... but before she could do anything, an explosion knocked her off her feet and everything went black.
Goku dropped the enormous tree trunk and ran home, towards the source of the explosion. He hoped desperately that Chi-Chi was okay.
Goku finally reached his home, only to find it had turned into a burnt out husk, still being engulfed in flames. He looked around, he couldn't see Chi-Chi anywhere.
Someone noisily cleared their throat. Goku turned to see a familiar man, he had a large white beard and mustache. And he also had Chi-Chi.
"Dr. Gero," Goku said coldly. "What are you doing here?"
"I finally tracked you down. I was just looking to take my revenge out on you for destroying the Red Ribbon Army. But I think I changed my mind." He nudged towards the unconscious Chi-Chi.
"Just let her go!" he cried, and he started to power up.
"And risk losing her, your wife? I don't think so. I'm starting on a new project and I'll need a specimen, or two. If you don't want anything to happen to her, I suggest you give up and come along with me." Gero nodded towards a large awaiting air ship.
Goku powered down and sadly followed after the scientist.
Please take care of Gohan, Kuririn, Goku prayed.
Gero broke out of his reverie when he noticed that the two artificial humans had returned from their duty. He noticed that their loyalty was starting to falter. He would have to fix that later.
