"Historia est magistra vitae. (History is the teacher of life)."
- OLD LATIN PROVERB
This web site was first started as an inspiration from the 60th anniversary of the D-day, landings of the allied troops on the coast of Normandy. The web site was symbolically published on the 6th of June 2004 commemorating, and paying respect to the sacrifice of the brave men who gave their lives, and shad their blood for a greater cause, for the liberation of Europe, and for the freedom of future generations to which I and many of us belong. Soon after that came the 62nd anniversary of the battle of Stalingrad, and the beginning of the end for the Nazi occupation troops throughout Europe. In July 2004 I added a page reflecting on the terrible cause of events that happen in Stalingrad in 1942. I wanted to share my love, and passion for history, especially the 20th century history with the others, so I created this web site, and although my first language isn't English, I wanted to bring the events that shaped our future closer to as many people as possible so I wrote the web site in English. In the near future I am also preparing a translation of the battles to the French language, and new audio, and video material. In order to bring the events closer to the visitors, I added many carefully chosen pictures to bring the viewers eye closer to the battle, also paying attention to the time that it takes to load the pages, and keeping it reasonable. Each page takes less than 60 seconds to load, and although full of photos, and maps explaining even closer the tactics used, and units deployed on the battlefield giving you a better view of the situation, and even using audio material, the pages are still effective, and user friendly. The interesting audio material that is still in preparation is surely going to put the visitors mind in a whole new situation of following the events, giving the viewer a whole new perspective, and a close up view of the battlefield in the 1940's. The web site is also full of text, explaining in detail what was the course of events, what tactics, and units were deployed, why certain actions were taken, what were the advantages and disadvantages of different units, and weapons used, and what other factors influenced the course of events in the II world war. All in all this web site is here to give you a whole new perspective on the greatest battles of the II world war, giving you a detailed close up of the battlefield.
