under construction, some of the links are real. Hello Testing 1...2...3...Testing.
This is a place to indulge some of my silly preoccupation's.
SO THERE! Images relating to travel, radio ( as N3JLD ), eccentric
music, Jazz, Blues, Folk, R & R, Satire ( Sartre ? ) and Spoken Word artist links are featured. Nothing is
for sale. Nothing is real. Close cover before striking. My
hovercraft is full of eels. He's no fun he fell right over. Not

penalty of law. Contents under pressure. No animals were harmed
during the production of this web site. Actual mileage may vary. Don't worry about the dead links, they can't hurt you.
This is an American carbon mic (right). Assistance
identifying this model would be appreciated, as well as
information about American Microphone formerly of Pasedena / LA
California.
Below is the RCA 44BX. The 44BX is a highly sought after mic as it has been
associated with broadcasting and recording since the 1930's, even
today it's considered a fine sounding instrument. If you
happen upon this mic, in any condition, let me know. In
1972, working at a local AM/FM radio station, I found in back of
the AM transmitter room a box of otherwise undisguised junk,
including this classic 44BX. The mic was long out of service;
having been vandalized by a DJ in a drunken rage. The station
manager exchanged this box of junk for some off -the- record
services. The serial number indicates that this mic was used
originally by a CBS station, most probably WTOP
/ WJSV. It has been
fully and artfully restored by

This was our last night on the town. It had
been an
exciting week visiting family, being tourists and
hunting what's left of the old Hollywood. I don't
remember how I learned of the Lavay Smith gig at The
Derby, but we were there in Los Feliz
and the night
was electric. Cindy, Peg and I at the same kidney
shaped bar where Joan
Crawford observed, "People have
to drink somewhere. Why not here?", so we did, don't
argue with Mommy Dearest as Mildred
Pierce. The
drinks and service were good, and not too overpriced,
this place is affordable and fun, filled with Lindy
Hoppers in forties drag and regulars. The Derby is a
100-by-35 foot room lined on one wall with six private
booths hung with burgundy velvet curtains. Near the
entrance is a heavy 1930 Brunswick pool table.
Standing by the pool table was Peter
Bonerz, having
just finished filming the bio pic "Man on the
Moon",
and dancing with a tall, blond lady was the short,
well dressed Robert
Wise sporting a pony tail. Lavay
Smith and her eight-piece band are a
blast, the band
swings to tasty charts zoot suitable for dancing or

film noir cross between Anita O' Day and Bette
