| I know youve had bad luck with guys but, maybe hes different, Bobbi said quietly. Pua turned her head and looked at her. You think hes the one? Yes. Havent you noticed that way that he looks at you, the way he held your hand? Yeah, I noticed it. He does it in an 'Im-his-friend' way. Thats all. Bobbi sighed. This was going to be a lot harder that she thought. * * * Monday morning Pua and Bobbi went to school weary and worn out. Their outings during the weekend had thoroughly seen to that. Puas back was still tender from the accident, and every time someone ran into her she grimaced. Geez you look manly today, Bobbi said pointing to the baggy pants, skater shoes, HIC T-shirt and visor that Pua was wearing. Thank you. Ill take that as a compliment, she said sarcastically. Bobbi laughed. Youre welcome, she said. The day went by fairly quickly and soon it was fifth period, Pua had business computers. At the moment she was working on a website about Apolo. At first it had been hard for her to work on it seeing as how now he wasnt just a fantasy, someone that she could make up stories about, and pretend that she would one day meet. He was real now. The fantasy had come true, or at least part of it had. She listened to her CD player as she forced herself to focus on the object at hand. As she quietly sang along the song she had been listening to ended, and she waited for the next one to start. It was All You Wanted by Michelle Branch. Ever since she had first heard of Apolo she had had a special connection with this song. The words talked of a young woman saving her lover-of-sorts from the daily grind of life. The expressions in the music were how Pua felt for Apolo, even before she met him. As the song progressed she fought not to tear-up. She sighed. Whats wrong with me? She thought. Looking at all of the Apolo pictures that filled up her web page, she began to sing along with the music again, determined to not be a lovesick fool. * * * Pua? Are you a virgin? Kathy asked. She was always one of those types of people. The kind who asked really personal questions at the worst possible moment. Puas head snapped up What?! Are you a virgin? She asked again. Pua stared at Kathy like she was mental; didnt she have any common sense? Yes, she replied. Kathy shrugged her shoulders, Oh. Why? Just curious. By now Pua was thoroughly confused. Most people dont just ask you if you are a virgin just to ask, but then again Kathy wasnt most people. Well, Kathy I dont know about you, but I was raised to have morals and manners in my life, Ill stay a virgin til Im married. That was how 6th period ended, as the bell rang in Puas ears. She rushed out of the classroom, and rummaged through her backpack, while she walked down the hall to meet Bobbi. Pua was going to take her home. It was a bit out of the way for her but she didnt mind, she never did. Pua! Bobbi yelled as she walked up to her friend. Bobbi! she yelled back. You ready to go? Actually I have to go to the mallis that ok? Yeah sure, its on the way any way, Pua said, still rummaging in her bag for her car keys. Great. Bobbi and Pua walked to the car. It was so hot that they were glad to be inside the car with air conditioning. Pua started the car and put on the air condition. It felt like heaven. Pua pulled out of the parking lot and headed to the mall. Bobbi turned on the radio and didnt find anything good on the radio so she turned on the C.D. player. The first song was All you wanted. Puas mouth dropped open. I was just listening to that. .. If you want to, I can save you, I can take you away from here, so lonely inside, so busy out there and all you wanted was somebody who cares As the music played the two of them sang along. Pua thought of Apolo, and started to tear up. She couldnt help but think of him. She was in love, and didnt want to admit it. They soon arrived at the mall. Pua quickly found a parking space. They got out of the car and headed towards Longs. They passed by Champs Sports and Bobbi saw a pair of cool basketball shoes she just had to get. Pua motioned to follow her but dropped her keys on the floor. Quickly she bent down to pick them up and stopped. She saw a pair of Nike shoes standing in her way. She lifted her head up to say sorry when she saw the person standing in front of her. His shoulder length brown hair and almond eyes were recognizable to a fault. It was Apolo. He was looking at her with his awesome smile. Pua just stared back. He was with another girl. She was laughing, smiling and had her arm around his. |
