The Bentleigh Branch of the ALP formed the Labor Coalition of Friends
of Asylum Seekers at its September meeting. The aim of the Labor
Coalition is seek a change in ALP policy on two issues. One, to stop
mandatory detention and two, to replace Temporary Protection Visas with
Permanent Protection Visas for all asylum seekers granted refugee
status.
We have had an excellent response to our invitation to all ALP branches in Victoria to join the Coalition. So far the following have joined: Mentone, Alpine, Ararat, Carlton North, Brighton and Highett.
Our main aim is to get ALP branches to join but individual ALP members are welcome.
