(On behalf of Kevin Peoples, ALP.)
The Bentleigh Branch of the ALP formed the Labor Coalition of Friends of Asylum Seekers at its September meeting. The aim of the Labor Coalition is seek a change in ALP policy on two issues. One, to stop mandatory detention and two, to replace Temporary Protection Visas with Permanent Protection Visas for all asylum seekers granted refugee status.

We have had an excellent response to our invitation to all ALP branches in Victoria to join the Coalition. So far the following have joined: Mentone, Alpine, Ararat, Carlton North, Brighton and Highett.

Our main aim is to get ALP branches to join but individual ALP members are welcome. To join all you need do is to email the Secretary, Kevin Peoples at [email protected] or write to the Branch requesting membership at the following address: Kevin Peoples, Secretary, Bentleigh Branch of the ALP, Box 406, Bentleigh, Victoria 3204.

I would be happy to answer any questions or come to discuss the issue of asylum seekers at your branch. This issue will not go away neither will we.

Kevin Peoples
