RAC-Darebin
This page is devoted to the activities of RAC's Darebin group, which is now up and running. Meetings are held on Monday evenings at 6.15 p.m. in the Meeting Room at Northcote Library, Separation Street, Northcote.
Objectives
- to develop, implement and support practical initiatives to assist refugees, particularly those living in the Darebin area
- to foster relationships with refugees, including those living in the Darebin area and those currently in detention centres, and gain their input into the directions of RAC-Darebin
- to raise funds to support a range of initiatives that enhance refugees' lives, particularly those living in the Darebin area
- to link in with existing initiatives that address refugee issues, particularly in relation to temporary protection visas
- to raise community awareness and provide a forum to discuss refugee issues
- to advocate for the demands of the Refugee Action collective to be met
- to regularly liaise with other Refugee Action Collective groups to facilitate the coordination and integration of activities
- to build up a vibrant locally-based Refugee Action Collective group in Darebin
A large proportion of refugees released from detention on Temporary Protection Visas choose to reside in the City of Darebin. RAC-Darebin, therefore, campaigns to achieve the core RAC objectives but also to provide support to TPV holders living in the local area.
