States

Theme for this year:

-Where Life Is Art-

And next on our list is...

The States Festival is to be held in downtown Tampa April 2-5. From 8am-midnight, the best of the state will showcase their work...for all those who go that is. In order to, there is a $60 fee that's to be paid to Ms. Culver, along with the necessary paperwork. You also had to have competed in either IE's or One-Acts to even go to States. With literally thousands of people attending, you do not want to miss out on this event! (Oh, and did I mention the HUGE dance on the last day?)

NEW THIS YEAR:

  • States will be held April 2-5. Events on Wednesday will be held at the Performing Arts Center, Tampa Theatre and the Holiday Inn. Events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be held at the Holiday Inn, Convention Center, Tampa Theatre, and the Performing Arts Center
  • The board has set the registration fee for Festival 2003 at $60 per person
  • The Student Conduct Contract contains two new changes for States '03:
*I will abide by my schools, countys, or districts dress code while attending the State Festival
*I am willing to accept the evaluation(s) and opinion(s) of the panel of judges in all events in which I compete. I understand and agree that Florida State Thespians is not liable for any perceived injury and/or defamation
  • In the next few weeks, the district chairs will be writing each principal (excluding Dade county) informing them that they now need to approve each of our scripts before we perform them. The district chairs will also let them know that if anyone at the State Festival writes the board saying that they found a performance offensive, that the board will forward this complaint directly to the principal who certified that the material was acceptable. (In Dade county, the teachers, and not the principals, have to check the material...in case you were wondering.)
  • To give more One-Acts a chance to perform in Morsani or Ferguson Halls, the One-Acts this year will run on Wednesday, Thursday, AND Friday. Adding them to the schedule Friday means that we won't have to require as many shows to go into the smaller Don Jones Theatre. On Friday, One-Acts will be held simultaneously as all normal events at the Tampa Convention Center. The Festival will provide two large busses making continuous round trips from the Performing Arts Center to the Convention Center, to allow free-flow between the two performance areas
  • Closing ceremonies is being changed into two different acts. Act one will include all of the awards, scholarships and traditional announcements necessary to end the Festival. Act two will be the State Thespian Showcase of IE's. There'll be a ten minute intermission between the acts so a troupe can chose to attend either or both of these events
  • Next year's Festival date is March 30-April 3. (Subject to change.)

  • For all you techies and directors out there...

Here are the '02/'03 selections for all technical theatre designs and student directed scenes:
