| Abstract An abdominoplasty technique is described that combines vertical and horizontal resection to restore abdominal contour to upper and lower abdomen and mons pubis. |
| THE SURGERY
Complete abdominoplasty usually takes two to five hours, depending on the extent of work required. Partial abdominoplasty may take an hour or two. Most commonly, the surgeon will make a long incision from hipbone to hipbone, ,just above the pubic area. A second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue. With partial abdominoplasty, the incision is much shorter and the navel may not be moved, although it may be pulled into an unnatural shape as the skin is tightened and stitched. Next, the surgeon separates the skin from the abdominal wall all the way up to your ribs and lifts a large skin flap to reveal the vertical muscles in your abdomen. These muscles are tightened by pulling them close together and stitching them into their new position. This provides a firmer abdominal wall and narrows the waistline. The skin flap is then stretched down and the extra skin is removed. A new hole is cut for your navel, which is then stitched in place. Finally, the incisions will be stitched, dressings will be applied, and a temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the surgical site. In partial abdominoplasty, the skin is separated only between the incision line and the navel. This skin flap is stretched down, the excess is removed, and the flap is stitched back into place. AFTER YOUR SURGERY For the first few days, your abdomen will probably be swollen and you're likely to feelsome painand discomfort which can be controlled by medication. Depending on the extent of the surgery, you may remain hospitalized for two to three days. Your doctor will give you instructions for showering and changing your dressings. And though you may not be able to stand straight at first, you should start walking as soon as possible. Surface stitches will be removed in five to seven days, and deeper sutures, with ends that protrude through the skin, will come out in two to three weeks. The dressing onyour incision may be replaced by a support garment. |
| This is the biggest Tummy Tuck,I had 4.5 kilos taken off, this is a very big operation, and it took me a long time to get over it. I didn't really feel that prepared about it because people only ever talked about the weightloss surgery, but in actual fact this surgery is much bigger and harder and I think some of that is because there is way more surface area involved in it too, I ended up going home with drains still in my wound and then they decided to take them out,but that was a big mistake because it was a bit early so I had a collection of fluid leaking out and then i ended going to the Dr every day for 3 months to get it dressed. I would suggest that you only have this operation if you have got a big apron you need to get rid of i have seen people who have only had a little bit taken off and it hasn't really had much effect on their appearence. After it had all healed up i still had a bit of a bulgue, which ment the difference between a dress size but i wasnt too worried after all I'd been through, the dr offered to fix it for me but I am not in a rush to have more surgery, I have hardly any feeling in this area now,It was 9 months to get all my excess weight off,and I had the TT streight after that. They did make me a new Tummy Button, they tried to do it twice but it healed up both times, but the thing I should point out is that the new tummy button didn't look real at all and I wouldn't say you could put a stomach ring in it or anything like that , my you me at my age that doesn't really bother me. |
