Compaq
Launches NonStopTM eBusinessSolutions Strategy in Asia Pacific by Forming Strategic Alliance with Tata Technologies
SINGAPORE, October 19, 1999 Compaq, the
worlds second largest computer company, launched its NonStopTM eBusiness
Solutions strategy in Asia Pacific today by signing an MOU with Tata Technologies, a
member of the Tata Group, Indias oldest, largest and best-known conglomerate.
This strategic alliance involves joint efforts in marketing, sales
and projects aimed at enhancing the competencies of both companies in providing enterprise
solutions to the manufacturing industries. Key areas of cooperation include hardware,
networks and infrastructure-related products and services in eBusiness, Enterprise
Resource Planning, Customer Relationship Management, and Engineering Automation Systems.
"In line with Compaqs NonStopTM eBusiness
Solutions strategy, we are pleased to partner with a specialist organisation of one of
Asia Pacifics largest conglomerates to jointly explore business opportunities for
deploying complex solutions in major manufacturing industries. As a major enterprise
player, we believe Compaq can work effectively with Tata Technologies in bringing
best-in-class products, solutions and services to enterprises, and provide support across
the value chain extending from suppliers to dealers and customers," said Paul Chan,
Vice President and Managing Director, Compaq Computer Asia Pacific.
"Our vision is to be the partner of choice for industry
leaders who view the strategic use of information technology as critical to their success.
We believe that this synergetic relationship with Compaq will help to deliver more
complete solutions to enterprises throughout the Asia Pacific region," said Patrick
McGoldrick, Managing Director, Tata Technologies.
The MOU was signed by Enrico Pesatori, Senior Vice President and
Group General Manager, Enterprise Solutions and Services Group, Compaq Computer
Corporation; Balu Doraisamy, Managing Director, Compaq Computer India; and Patrick
McGoldrick, Managing Director, and S. Sambasivan, Regional Manager, Consulting Group, Tata
Technologies.
The signing took place after Pesatori had delivered the NonStopTM
eBusiness Solutions strategy at a press briefing.

Compaqs NonStopTM eBusiness Solutions Strategy
Pesatori said: "We are building a new Compaq for a new
Millennium. A company which recognises that having the right technology infrastructure
lies at the heart of what will make most companies competitive and successful in the next
century. Compaq is unique in having the breadth of technology, the innovative spirit and
the depth of skill that companies are looking for to help them build the new
infrastructure they need to compete and succeed in the new Internet Age."
He said that Compaq has put in place an integrated strategy of
product innovation, services and partnerships that meet business managers needs for
fast-time-to-service and CIOs need for architected solutions. "This is the
essence of our NonStopTM eBusiness Solutions strategy. And we are doing
this with the objective of making the whole process simpler, less risky and more
cost-effective than any other major IT player," he added.
Pesatori added that Compaqs strategic focus on NonStopTM
eBusiness Solutions is driven by growing customer needs for computing systems, solutions
and infrastructure that are affordable, always available when needed, scaleable, easy to
manage and secure.
The Internet and eBusiness are pioneering a new business model.
eBusinesses require systems that deliver around-the-clock service using Internet
principles. These computing utilities environments designed to deliver information
to users as reliably as power companies deliver electricity have little in common
with old infrastructure designs. The new infrastructure must:
Run continuously. The NASDAQ stock exchange has been
running Compaq systems for 18 years and has never gone down.
Change constantly. Amazon.coms Alpha-based web server
site has been modified hundreds of times in order to evolve from a simple system to one
that sells more than just books.
Scale quickly. Microsofts web site uses more that
1,200 Compaq ProLiant servers and continues to scale to deliver continuous services to MS
customers, MS Network and MSNBC.
Dynamically reconfigure business. In this new online world,
new business models will be required continuously, as well as new partners and new
products. and it wont stop for your business.

Pesatori said that getting the right infrastructure in place early
is the key to being successful in eBusiness in the Internet Age. "The New Market
opportunity is all about customers building and integrating the infrastructure that
companies will need to compete and succeed in the Internet Age. Compaqs target
market is eBusiness for the global 24x7 economy. Customers can count on Compaq to help
them be always on, reduce time-to-solution, leverage partners to deliver
Internet advantage, drive industry-standard solutions into the enterprise faster, and at
lower cost, and bring NonStopTM technology to industry-standard
solutions. We aim to make our eBusiness customers unstoppable," he added.
