Characters

In this game, you have the option of playing an actual historical character, one based on an actual historical or literary character, or a fictional character you create yourself.

If you wish to play an actual historical character, thumbnail sketches are provided in the "Character Suggestions"; so please look over the list. Even if you decide not to play a particular person, you may find some inspiration for a player-designed character in one of those historical figures.

We have already cast several roles (see the cast list) but many interesting roles still remain. Among the historical figures, we would be particularly interested in seeing:

Johann Nepomuk Maelzel, a Viennese inventor and maker of mechanical musical devices, currently involved in a nasty lawsuit with Ludwig van Beethoven, and reputed in some credulous circles to be a practitioner of black magic, because his devices are so fiendishly clever...

Count Adam von Neipperg, Austrian cavalry officer, and Archduchess Marie Louise's "chaperone" on her abortive journey to Elba. Since the archduchess' return, Count von Neipperg has been the archduchess' majordomo and is handling her business affairs and representing her at the Congress

Prince Adam Czartoryski, Polish patriot and the Czar's chief advisor on the Polish question. He is also reputed to be the Czarina's lover.

We would also like to see more Italian and/or German patriots in the game (we have a plotline in mind that would involve them) as well as, possibly, more individuals of a less savory reputation -- gamblers, jewel thieves, courtesans, etc. (again, we have a plotline in mind that would work best with such characters...)

Finally, we are interested in having somebody play Agent **, a spy for the Austrian secret police whose name is to this day unknown. All that is known of this Austrian spy is that he or she was extremely well-connected in high society. Those players who have already selected a character (unless, of course, you are the official representative of another nation, such as Wellington or Talleyrand) may also consider the role of Agent ** as part of their character's background. Obviously, anybody who wishes to play Agent ** must have a cover identity as well.
