Character Creation Questionnaire

NOTE: This questionnaire is only for those who are creating their own characters. If you are playing an actual historical figure, do not answer this questionnaire.

Physical Fact

  1. Is your character based on a historical or fictional figure? If so, who?
  2. What is your character�s name? Do you have any aliases? Are you known in public by your real name or by an alias?
  3. Where is your character from? Where was he or she born, and where does he or she live now? What is your character�s ethnicity (if this is not obvious from the other questions)?
  4. How old is your character (really)?
  5. Describe briefly your character�s physical appearance. Is he or she especially attractive? Does he or she have any unique mannerisms or physical features that are remarked upon (either kindly or unkindly) in society?

Personality

  1. Describe briefly your character�s upbringing and background, with special note of any significant events that have had a formative influence on your character�s personality.
  2. Describe briefly your character�s educational background (formal or informal). Note any special skills or areas of expertise (e.g., scientific, mathematical, mechanical, linguistic, etc.) NOTE: It is assumed that all characters speak French, as that is the international language of diplomacy, and it is the language in which the game is presumed to take place.
  3. What is your character�s religious denomination? Is your character especially pious or impious (i.e., does your character�s religion have a significant effect on his or her character)?
  4. What is your character�s public reputation or demeanor?
  5. What is your character�s true personality? Please include any quirks or eccentricities, and also your personal moral code.
  6. Does your character have any strong likes or dislikes (including prejudices, one way or another)?
  7. What are your character�s favorite pastimes? Do you have any other particularly favored things (e.g., horses, cards, music, tobacco, wine, etc.)? How well are these known in society?
  8. What are your character�s weaknesses or flaws? Which of them are known, and by whom?
  9. What are your character�s long-term goals and motivations (e.g., greed, love, patriotism, etc.)?

Society

  1. What is your character�s social position? Does he or she have a title?
  2. Describe briefly your character�s family background, including spouse, if any. Are any of them present at the Congress? How does your character get along with them? Include in your descriptions any friends or retainers as well. Note in particular any ways in which the family background or those relationships impact directly on the character�s own life.
  3. What does your character do for a living (if anything)? Does he or she hold any particular office or military rank? If so, for which country?
  4. Does your character possess any special talents (e.g., musical, intellectual, social)? How do those talents impact (if at all) on what your character does for a living?
  5. Is your character wealthy? If so, what is the source of this wealth? Are there any restrictions on utilizing it? If your character is not wealthy-or needs more money than he or she actually possesses-how does this affect his or her life?
  6. Does your character have any interest in the arts or music? How well-known, and how well-informed, is this interest?
  7. Who are your character�s allies, if any? What is the basis of your alliance? What support are they able to give you? What do they want in return for their support (and can you give it to them)? How loyal are they to you? How loyal are you to them? Are they here in Vienna?
  8. Who are your character�s enemies, if any? What is the basis of your enmity? What is your attitude towards them (e.g., loathing, fear, murderous rage, mild contempt)? Do they know that they are your enemies? Are they here in Vienna?

Plot Points.

  1. Why is your character at the Congress of Vienna? Is the �official� reason different from the �real� reason? If so, explain.
  2. What are your character�s specific goals here at the Congress, in order of importance? What are your ideas about how to achieve them? What obstacles, that you know of, must you overcome to achieve them? How far would you go to achieve them?
  3. Is your character interested/involved in political issues? If not, skip this question. If so, please explain your character�s views on the following issues (you might not have an opinion on every question):
