The Kimono Collector started shortly after founder Robin Cahill took her two sons to Japan in the year 2000 in pursuit of those ever-popular little monsters, Pokémon. Robin, being fascinated with old-world Japanese beauty, decided to find a geisha while she was in Kyoto. Instead, she found Peter MacIntosh, and made a friendship that would open up countless doors to her in the hanamachi (flower towns of the maiko and geiko). After viewing some of the spectacular handcrafted antiques held within, Robin had the idea to bring these unique treasures back to America and to sell them at reasonable prices so that everyone could get a taste of the luxurious world of the geisha that had previously been available to a select few. Thus, The Kimono Collector was born.

Robin has been travelling and studying kimono extensively for the past four years. She is planning on publishing an encyclopedia on kimono and related topics sometime in the near future, and the authority on the modern geisha world and good friend Peter MacIntosh is set to write the forward.

Robin's deep love for kimono and the culture that comes with it is evident in the carefully chosen kimono and antiques that we are now able to offer to you. Without that love, desire to learn, and appreciation, The Kimono Collector would not be a reality today.
