Symbols of the Craft: What Are They and What Do They Mean?

The pentacle (not to be confused with a
pentagram - I'll explain), is quite possibly the most
misunderstood symbol of the WitchCraft. Many people believe,
wrongly, that the pentacle is the symbol of the Satan, which
confuses people, since Witches don't believe in Satan. It is, in
fact, representative of the Four Elements (Earth, Air, Fire, and
Water), and Spirit at the top point of the star.
The pentacle means nothing evil. In fact, the Greek Pythagoreans
believed this symbol to be the epitome of the embodiment of
perfect balance and wisdom. The circle surrounding the pentagram
(a pentagram is nothing more than a 5-pointed star) or the star
makes it a pentacle rather than a pentagram. The circle
represents eternity and unity within and throughout.
And, no, there is no special protective barrier (unless
spiritually empowered) that is created by wearing the pentacle.
It doesn't enable Witches to read your mind. It is just like the
Christian Cross; it's purpose is to remind us of who we are and
what we stand for, and, just a little bit, to invoke divine
power.

The above symbol is an inverted pentacle. This is the symbol of Satanists. This symbol has nothing to do with WitchCraft. It is merely an inverted symbol that Satanists select to represent their beliefs. This is the same as Satanists inverting the Christian Cross. An inverted Christian Cross is not a Christian Cross; it is a symbol of Satanism.

More like than not, you are probably wondering what the HELL a plain, old dagger is doing in the Symbols of WitchCraft section. This is not just an ordinary knife, however. This is an athame, a ritualistic tool of Witchcraft. Athames are never, ever, ever, EVER used for cutting an object. They are used for directing positive, divine energy with. Nothing more and, most certainly, nothing less.
The Magic Circle
The magic circle is a personally empowered, protective circle of power that Witches usually complete their rites in. Some Witches also raise a magic circle if they feel that a kind of negative energy is targeting them, or if they feel they need an extra guard. This, by no means, replaces the need to lock your door or window. It is only another precaution.

The bolline, unlike the athame, is used to cut herbs, plants, and inscribe runes. It is used for this special purpose because of its sacred empowerment.
Those are some of the most basic tools of WitchCraft. There are, of course, many, many more that are used. Didn't I tell you that it wasn't "evil" or "Satanic"? Well, now you know!
