The
Environmental Reconstruction Research Group   The information provided offers a summary of the research activities of this group within the School of Geography & Geosciences at St Andrews University (Scotland).  The site focuses on past environmental change, and the environmental and socio-economic implications of current and future changes. Research themes include Quaternary geology and geomorphology, ice-sheet reconstruction, Quaternary chronology and Holocene landscape evolution and coastal evolution. Members of the Research Group have worked in many parts of the world including, the U.K., Scandinavia, Iceland, India, North and SW Africa, Australia and South America.
Natural attentuation tools are available at this site.  These tools include software to evaluate the progress of natural attentuation. This link will take you to Conestoga-Rover and Assoc. home page.  Click on "Innovations" on the left side of the screen.
New Ideas in Pollution Regulation (NIPR) web site.  Pollution abatement in developing countries.  This site is provided by Prosody Communications in cooperation with the World Banks Economics of Industrial Pollution Control research group.  The site is targeted at people and organizations interested in public policy issues relating to the cost-effective control of pollution in developing countries.  The site is highlighted by a collection of WBEIPC working papers that focus mainly on pollution abatement issues.  Accompanying these papers is a data set (zipped ASCII and Lotus .wk1 data) for modeling industry pollution performance.  As the site develops, more papers and data are expected to be added, as well as a discussion list to facilitate communication and collaboration among interested researchers.  Note that although the WBEIPC is involved in the NIPR project, this site does not represent World Bank policy.

USGS National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program has launched a Web site tha provides public access to USGS waer-quality data collected across the United States.  While you are at it check out the USGS Water Resources Web site that focuses on U.S. water resources and related issues.
Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology is developing an educational
MERL (Metals for Environmental Remediation and Learning) CD-ROM that presents chemical concepts embedded in a story of environmental technology development. The story involves accidental discovery, proof-of-concept, commercialization, and acceptance of a new remediation technique involving scrap iron.
Volcano Hazards Scientists who study volcanoes say that while asteroids get all the press -- wiping out dinosaurs is good for your image -- volcanoes pose a more immediate and constant threat to people around the world.
