This is my interview with a teenage high school girl who believes she and her boyfriend are ready to have a child.

teengirl: Do you have any advice on having a kid and college?

Me: If I could do it again, I would finish college, get married first, and then consider children after I bought boats and traveled the world.

teengirl: I mean, how can I have a baby and college?

me: Well it is pretty tough to go to school with a baby...first of all, how can you pay for daycare if your not working?

teengirl: I have a job

me: when will you study? if you have to work and go to school and then there will be cooking and cleaning and laundry and sleepless nights.

teengirl: That's why you have a man. Put that man to work.

me: LOL yeah right. Well I will tell you the truth about how it was for us..I had a 'man'.  Ok, Andrew worked, but because of his lack of education, he never made much money which meant I had to work too. Daycare is $100 per week, and some people charge more.

teengirl: true.

me: so I went to classes from 8 am to 12 pm 3 days per week and I worked fulltime on the other days. (partime on the school days) So everyday I came home at about 6 pm after picking up Shantal from the daycare.

teengirl: that's a nice name.

me: thanks. If you have to take the bus it would take longer. then when I came home I had to make dinner, eat, clean up, give her a bath, and get ready for the next day. Hopefully I get to watch my favorite show.

teengirl: I drive.

me: Plus I was grouchy and tired and Shantal want's me to read to her. UGH! I don't want to so I send her to bed. and boyfriend wants to have sex. UGH! too tired for that. He gets mad and we go to bed.

teengirl: awwwww...LOL that is funny.

me: Then I took a weekend class on Saturday all day. so Sunday was the only day to rest, except I couldn't because I had to do laundry for the next week and clean the house since I didn't have time to during the week.

teengirl: I think I can do it.

me: Well, I don't doubt that you can do it, I am just trying to figure out why you'd WANT to! It is tough. No joke.

teengirl: sounds like a lot of work. I want a baby and so does he.

me: They don't stay babies forever. Finish College and get married first. You owe it to the baby.

teengirl: I know.

me: Have something to offer it. Shantal has been raised in daycares practically. I don't remember when she walked or talked or crawled. Don't you want to stay home with your baby and play with it all day? You can't do that if you have to go to school and work.Let him finish college first and get a good job so he can support the three of you and you won't have to work. Then you can love your baby more often and spend a lot of quality time with it.

teengirl: I will talk to him.

me: You asked me for advice on having children while still in school. Here it is. DON'T

teengirl: lol ok.

me: I have done all of it. high school, college, full time job, and marriage..all with a baby. I have so many regrets, but I can't now. I have to just love my children and make the best of it. and fix the future, you know?

teengirl: yeah I know.

me: I think about how unstable our relationship was. all the fights Shantal had to see. All the times he moved out and abandoned her.

teengirl: Oh really? How old is she?

me: She is 6 1/2 now. and my youngest is 1

teengirl: cool

teengirl: Where did you work?

me: I was an office manager for a large insurance company.

me: Well, whatever you decide to do, talk to some experts, pretend your buying a car. Don't make a bad decision. At least if you buy the wrong car you can sell it or something. lol having a baby is a lifetime commitment. Maybe you can volunteer at the hospital in the infant ward...see if you can handle a sick child while going to school. My youngest had Cerebral Palsy. Your baby might not be healthy..have you ever considered that?
