February 24-25, 2001 QVSC Remains Hot Despite Cold Temps Blackstrap Winter Park was the venue for this weekends Sask Cup slalom races and, although the temperatures hovered around minus 30 degrees, members of the QVSC Alpine Race Team turned in some hot runs to take away several medals. QVSC took the lead in the club points race as Rachelle Hollinger and Yolandi Lombard led the way with two gold medals each. Following are the QVSC medal and ribbon recipients from the two days of racing:

J4 Championships Dominated By QVSC Athletes
Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club was the host at Mission Ridge Ski Area for
the Provincial Championships for the J4 ski racers. These athletes are
under 11 years of age and are the future of ski racing in Saskatchewan. 63
racers completed in the J-4 Bachlada format giant slalom race. For the
ladies, our own Naomi Ottenbreit captured GOLD
while White Track's Carmen Prefontaine and Morgan Waldo earned the silver and
bronze medals respectively. On the men's side QVSC athletes swept all the
medals with Gustav Dippenaar gaining GOLD,
Walter Dippenaar SILVER,
and Lee McDougall the BRONZE.

N.G.S.L. Provincial Championships a Success
Saskatchewan's Nancy Greene Ski League Championships were also hosted
by the Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club at Mission Ridge Ski Area. A total of
220 racers from 9 clubs competed for the Provincial title. Once all the
results were tabulated the team from Prince Albert claimed the Provincial
Plaque. Our own Nancy Greeners showed very well by placing second at this
well attended event. All accounts indicate that a great time was had by
all. Well done to all the volunteers from QVSC who put in so much time to
help this event be a success.
