| What is microsoft Word? First, the main thing you need to know about Microsoft Word which is a software like Microsoft Powerpoint, and other Microsoft softwares... But each one of these softwares have their own special way of presenting a document. Microsoft Word's is a software for typing up a plain document. Microsoft worrd allows you to do more than just typing. It goes to a world beyond. Installation Microsoft Word are normally installed when you buy a new computer. Click on the "Start" menu, point to "Programs", and click on Microsoft Word. A blank document would appear after this process is completed. Getting Started What do you do with the blank document? First, you should to save the document. How do you save? You click on File on the Menu Bar (the menu bar contains the following: File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Table, Window and Help.) After you click on File, a drop down menu will appear. Find Save As on the list and click on it. A save as dialog box will pop up asking what FILE NAME to save it as and WHERE to save it. Another way to save a document is to click on the save icon on the toolbar which looks like a floppy disk. Saved or Not? How do you know if a document is saved? Look at the Title Bar (the bar on the top that is usually blue). If it shows a document and its number, the file is not saved. When you give the file a name, the name will show on the Title bar. The 4 steps (as we call it) The 4 major steps for creating a document succesfully are simple. 1) Save (you need to save frequently in case your computer freezes) 2)Type your information up. (you should keep on typing even if you have spelling errors, fix them later.) 3) Spell Check (Now you can fix the mistakes you have made before) 4) Formatting (Change the style, font, size, and etc of the information up type.) Formatting What is formatting? It is best to format your document when you finish typing up your information. When you format a document you are choosing the --font size, font type, color, pictures, background and anything that would make your document look nice and complete. While formatting, you have to make sure that certain things are standing out and certain things are not. For exampe if I am writing a short story, then the title of my story would probably be bolded and the rest of the body paragraphs should not have a font size that is bigger than the title. Different bars In Word, there are a lot of different toolbars. A toolbar contain icons and menus. There is two toolbar that are very common which are the Standard and Formatting toolbar. The Standard toolbar have shorcuts so you won't have to go through a lot of trouble. Look at the Standard Toolbar on you computer. It should have images on it like a white paper, a folder opening, a floppy dish and etc. The white paper means a new document, the opening folder means open a document. The floppy disk icon means to save. And many more, you can tell what does that icon do when you point your mouse pointer over the icon. There are many different toolbars in Microsoft Word.
