Quill writing group was formed with the help of an organisation called SeachangeTrust in Great Yarmouth in 1999 We had just a small gathering of mainy ladies , until one or two men joined the group. We were involved in writing for various productions that were made by Seachange to encourage the arts in Great Yarmouth, and we enjoyed being a part of these. Since 2002 we have been writing just for ourselves, but would like to encourage new members to join us and hope that now we have this web site , local people around Great Yarmouth will feel they would like to join in and share their various writing accomplishments. We meet once a month ( soon to be increased to twice) on the last Wednesday of each month From 1.30pm to 3.30pm Last October we had a three day exhibition of our poetry with visual images . This was exciting and we all worked hard to make it a success. Thanks go to Seachange for letting us have their gallery for free. We have decided to change our meeting venue from the Seachange premises in Yarmouth , and are at present meeting at Sue's house. We are hoping to gain the support of the local library and meet there each month. We are now meeting at Peggotty Road community centre in Great Yarmouth. on the last Wednesday of each month from 1.30pm - 3.30 pm Since the last update to this info we have successfully been awarded a grant from the Community Learning Chest. This sum of money has been beneficial in the activities of the group and is helping us to expand and to continue to meet at the present venue . Last year we were given the opportunity to work with Creative Arts East on a project called Site Specific. This project was connected to a sense of place and 2 other creative writing groups were involved, one from Norwich and one from Fakenham. We decided to write about the historical "rows" in Great Yarmouth This will be covered in more detail on the next page. |
