What Is MUN?In the Model United Nations participants assume the role of ambassadors from U.N. member states to debate current issues within the organization's extensive programme. Delegates represent the foreign policy of a country and do their best to portray their views to the other members. It is basically a simulation of the United Nations. Before playing out their ambassadorial roles, students research global problems to be addressed, drawn from today's headlines. Members learn how the international community acts on its concerns about topics including peace and security, human rights, the environment, food and hunger, economic development, and globalization. Model U.N. delegates also look closely at the needs, aspirations, and foreign policy of the countries they will represent at the event. The Model United Nations engages students of all abilities in high-level debate at the numerous large conferences held throughout the world and the many small workshops held within campuses and schools. The society at Queens is dedicated to developing oratorical skills, improving knowledge and understanding of international politics and political situations. Always addressing the social function of a group aimed predominately at a university level audience. |
