Over 1 million vehicles are stolen every year. Don't make it easy for professional thieves or joyriders to take your wheels. Follow these steps to help protect your vehicle.
Lock it up and protect the key. Don't leave keys in the vehicle even for a minute.
Close the windows all the way. This will force the thief to work harder and leave more fingerprints.
Control your keys. Never leave an Identification tag on your key ring. If your keys are lost or stolen, this could help a thief locate your car or home and burglarize it.
Keep everthing of value in your trunk when possible. Most joyriders wont spend the time to break into the trunk and risk getting caught.
Park in well-lighted and busy areas. Avoid leaving your vehicle in unattended parking lots for long periods of time.
Don't leave your registration inside the vehicle, carry it with you along with a complete description of your vehicle and license plate number. This way you will have the information availabe for the police if your car is stolen while your out and about.
Deter the thief by using a steering wheel lock(club), column lock or alarm.
Stop the thief from leaving in your vehicle with a fuel cut off or electrical kill switch.
