BAD NEWS
Donald R. Hale, 77, the long time president of the William Clarke Quantrill Society, passed away February 24, 2008 at Lee's Summit, MO where he had lived for many years. Don was born at Leeds, MO, and graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, in 1949. Don was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1954 as an anti-aircraft gunner. He later worked for Hallmark cards as a pressman for 37 years. Don began researching Quantrill and related subjects after be- coming interested in his ancestor, James Newton Vaughn, a Quantrill guerilla who was executed at Ft. Union in present day downtown Kansas City. Don will be sorely missed by all. Don has been replaced by Harold Dellinger, the former vice-commander. New members and renewals will note his address has replaced Dons.
