Putting the Brooder Together
Storage Bin
Lid for Storage Bin
2 Jar Lids or similar lids
1/4" or 1/2"
Screen Mesh
Marbles to sit in one lid
Towel to cover floor
40 to 60 watt bulb
Heat lamp for warmth
When putting together a brooder siz is a key facture I used.  I set mine up to support up to 20 chicks.
I started with a large storage bin.  Taking the lid I cut one or two holes in the top. (number of holes dermined by bin size.  I then secured the 1/4" mesh to the top of the lid covering the hole(s) completely.
Next a towel or that green outdoor carpet material can be fitted inside the bin to cover the plastic bottom.
Now the jar lids (one with marbles) are placed inside the bin on the towel off to one side.  The marble lid is filled with water and the other with food.
Once the lid is closed and everything is ready the lamp can be place on or above the wire mesh.  This is used to moderate the tempurature in the brooder.
I like to have the brooder temp around 80'F to 96'F (24'C to 32'C)
