"Cult members aren't really citizens.  The notions of citizenship and nationhood make little sense in this world.  We're not fathers, and mothers, and brothers:  We're consumers.  We care about sneakers, music and jeeps.  The only Life, Freedom, Wonder, and Joy in our lives are the brands on our supermarket shelves" (Lasn, The Cult You're In 53-54).
This is very true when you think of real life today.  All people care about these days is the clothes on their backs and looking cool.  We all care about our image more than ore familys,  as long as we look good for our friends, and are popular.
Popular Clothes
Popular Cars~ Ferrari
Popular Sneakers~ NIKE
I agree with this statement for every american, and I also believe the the real problem is with  teenagers today.  They don't know anything else but the best.  Our parents work so hard to get us everything we want and we have no concept of how hard our parents work for their money.  Teens these days don't care about their parents just the money they make.  When they get out in the real world then they have something to worry about because they will have to work for everything that they want.
