FINANCIAL SUMMARY
Teaching Garden/Playgrounds (part of School Beautification committee)
In 00/01 the proposed sources for revenue for this project were as follows
- $5,000 of the PAC
99/00 net income had been reserved for the Teaching Garden/Playgrounds project
- $7,000 of the PAC 00/01 net income had been reserved for the Teaching
Garden/Playgrounds project
- proceeds from a school garage sale held in June 2001
- proceeds from the sale in 00/01 of engraved bricks for the Teaching
Garden
- proceeds from a casino held in June 2001
It was anticipated that:
- the primary playground
phase one will be funded and installed by September 2001
- funds from 99/00 and 00/01 will be used for the basic Teaching Garden
to be installed in 01/02, and for
stone picnic tables further funding will be needed in 01/02
- the intermediate playground phase one will need further funding in 01/02
Update from the Sep. 2001 PAC meeting minutes:
Grounds Improvement
The Primary playground, phases 1 and 2 will be installed the first week of October. The outdoor classroom will also be installed with interlocking surfacing , 29 trees , benches and plant material. The bricks came in under budget, and the subsequent surplus was used to purchase “wood carpet” under the primary playground rather than the original wood chips.
Ellen would now like
PAC to direct its attention to the intermediate playground which will
require close to $35,000 to complete. With a successful casino grant of $14,000,
and PAC committing $5,000 to the project our fundraising efforts would be
aimed at raising the additional funds.
Ellen moved that PAC commit $5,000 to the intermediate playground and
Zane seconded. The motion was carried.
Update from the April 2002 PAC meeting:
The Primary playground is open.
The Teaching garden is done, they are just waiting for the grass seeding to take hold before opening the garden, it is anticipated that the opening will be in June 2002.
The Intermediate replacement playground planning is underway, a survey of Intermediate students on this subject was done. The treasurer advised that there is only about $5,000 remaining in PAC funds and she recommended that this be reserved for next year's annual expenses like safe arrival phone rental and fine arts performances, and that the $5,000 approved at the Sep. 2001 meeting could come from the direct appeal in Sep. 02. It was agreed that this would work as bills for the playground would not likely be due before that time. The old Intermediate playground will be dismantled by June 2002 to be eligible for a grant being offered by the Rotary Club. It is anticipated that the new Intermediate replacement playground will be installed in Sep. 2002 and available by about Oct. 2002.
The estinated cost of the Intermediate replacement playground has been reduced as the existing slide will be retained.
Funds anticipated to go towards the cost of the Intermediate replacement playground are as follows:
Sep. 02 Direct Appeal
reserve 5,000
Casino by Aug. 31/02 14,000
Rotary Club 6,000
Revenue from sales of Q Wear and Q Eggs ?
Total 26,000 + ?
Ellen suggested PAC
run another fundraiser in the fall to sell engraved bricks in the outdoor
teaching garden as it is not cost prohibitive to replace blank bricks there
with engraved ones.
