This is a test home page, about one of the two feast celebrated in the village of Qormi. Information about the statue of our Patron Saint - Saint George and some of the fine works that decorate our parish church during our feast at the celebrated the last week-end of the month of June.
This magnificent statue was made by Peitro Felici in 1739 and was used the first time in the procession of 1741 that used to take place on the 23rd of April. It was heard for the first time who the sculpture was on Monday 22nd June 1981.
Pietru Felici was born and baptized on the 22nd December, 1669. His father Wistin son of Pietru and his mother Grazzja daughter of Marija nee' Mallia where married on 28th February 1666. They had five children and Pietru was the third one. After that Pietru got married he had three children Wistin, Guzeppi and Anna Marija. He had 70 years when he made the statue of St. George and three years before he even made the statue of St. Nicholas of Bari for Siggiewi. He died on the 27th February 1743 aged 73.
In 1939 the Palm was changed with a new gold one. The Palm consists of a Palm leave with three crowns which are the symbols that the saint suffers. This Gold Palm was inaugurated and blessed by Archbishop Mawru Caruana on the 16th April 1939 and used for the first time on the feast of the same year, 21st May.
In 1945 Saint George came out from the parish church around the village with the say of the Rosary for saving the world from W.W.II.
In 1957 a new Gold diadem was made on the design of Manuel Buhagiar and paid for the expenses by Mrs. C. Borg and Miss C. Camilleri.
In 1985 a new "bradella" and "balkun" where made. Four bronze statues in the four corners of the balkun represent the four virtues which are "Fortitudini", Love, Hope and Faith. In the middle of each side four bronze descriptions which are St. George in Gloria, Worship to St. George from the five continents, Worship to St. George from the Wisdom People and Popes, and St. George during his death. The design was made by Frans Treeby Decelis while the statues where made by Alfred Camilleri Cauchi. The bronze work was made by Cutajar in Hamrun and the woodwork was made by Guzeppi Curmi and sparyed by Nazzareno Darmanin, both from Qormi.
In 1991 was made a pair of Gold Sandals to decorate more the Statue of St. George and was inaugurated the same year.
