| TAO of 'BAO' (Learning Styles) |
| The different learning styles, apparent in the way we have presented ourselves in our numerous discussions, has indeed shown us how a dynamic blend of the four different styles of working can resulted in a harmonious, good teamwork, and we would like to think of as 'Comrades in adversity' as first described by Revans. Starting with the Activist as one who likes to be thrown into the deep end, to take the limelight, to lead discussions and give presentations; Rachel's enthusiasm in leading discussions, and spontaneity in giving ideas as well as taking the initiative to start discussions on the project was expressed as an activist way of doing things. Without the activist in the group, there may have been too many chances missed where the group would have just bypassed the opportunity to have a good discussion. The Reflector, as described as one who is most comfortable when he can listen, observe and review what has happened, and produce detailed analysis of situation, was Chin Yang. His quiet but calm and listening ways were definitely an element the group could not do without. He usually sits, observes, and writes down the whole idea of what the group was discussing and usually makes the most sensible remarks that pulls the discussion back to reality. His ability to match pieces of discussion together has helped the group see the big picture most of the time, not just small details of the project. The Theorist, as described as one who likes systems, models and concepts and the opportunity to challenge assumptions and distinguish patterns, can be seen in Melissa's behaviour throughout lessons and discussions. She is always systematically copying down concepts during class, and then during discussions applying them aptly to the situations that we are in. Without her priority given to the application of Tao concepts on our project, the project would not have been so well thought out. Last but not least, the Pragmatist, as described as one who concentrates on practical issues and tends to be realistic and focuses on the task and technique, is Jen Hou. He is usually thinking of how the topics are relevant or not, and when thinking of what to do, is usually the first to put things in perspective. He also always describes a way which the project can work out, and what plan we should follow if doing the certain topic. Coincidentally, he is also the only member of the group from engineering, which probably explains his down-to-earth ways. |
